Do to the economy my husband wasn't able to keep a steady job for a year and during that time we became pretty much homeless. We have been staying with a family member and now are in a position to have our own place. Do to our past situation we have horrible credit and not good rental history. My question is does anyone know specific names of apartments that offer second chance leasing or no credit check. A reasonable deposit is a lot to ask for I know, but we don't want to use our entire savings to get into a place and then not have money to live off of. I also am trying to not spend a ton of money on app fees only to be declined. We are looking to stay in north Dallas, plano, Lewisville, Richardson, McKinney if at all possible. Any tips advice will be greatly appreciated.

S.,
Contact an apt. locator. Tell them your situation. let them advice you of which communities will work with slow credit. They will determine the max amount you can pay and they will call communities and try to narrow it down for you. This is no cost to you. I used to be an apt. manager. There use to be a guy named Shane at UMOVEFREE.com and he seemed to be a very nice guy to work with. Not sure if he is still there. This has been several years ago. These guys will even move you from where you are free. Best of luck!

In addition to the response about umove free, they are great, I've used them twice. Daniel Toran is the guy I work with and he is great
He always send me emails asking if I know of anyone and to give them this number ###-###-####

I wish I had lots of answers for you but I really dont. I know that in Carrollton there are some apts called Waterford at the Park. They do credit and background checks but allow you to explain any discrepancies or if something is showing past due on your credit but you paid it just show them proof of your payment. They are willing to at least try to work with you which is more than I can say about most apts, they just have a black and white approval process.

Make sure when you go in you tell apts what you have on your credit and most will be able to tell you not to waste your time. That is what I did, I went in saying I have a bankruptcy and some negative accounts but have paid them and have reciepts but cannot get them to change my credit report. Most places said we cannot do anything with you. Some said try and some offered with an additional deposit.

Good luck!
