My daughter is two months old and I am attempting to figure out what to get or suggest as gift ideas to like the grandparents and such. We got EVERYTHING that we could ever possibly want and much more at the baby shower (it was ridiculous in size, something that just kept growing exponentially and I lost control over), so we do not need anything really. I was trying to think of something unique that she would appriciate when she got older, but am at a loss. PLEASE help because I am being hounded by family for ideas.
Honestly Virgina,
At this age its the gifts are more for the parents. Get gifts that keep on giving IE DIAPERS (for any stage) always a need, DREFT or whatever baby detergent (can never have too much), BATH PRODUCTS, DIAPER ESSENTIALS wipes etc). When I had my daughter my I was given a babyshower where I got everything from the rooter to the tooter but what I appreciated the most not having to buy diapers for 3 months!!! (*_*) Clothes and toys are for bigger kids plus at this age they grow out of everything so daggone fast!!! Hope this helps!

My daughter was almost two months old her first Christmas and we were in the same predicament. I suggested to family and friends to get her savings bonds, etc. If you are not in need of anything, anything they spend money on will just be disposable in a short time while she will certainly appreciate the savings she will have when she is older.
Good Luck!

Buy her some stocks or bonds. I mean even if you can only afford to get her one share of something it's still really cool. And it's something that when she's older she can keep track of. I'd recomend something that's been around for a while that you know won't fail. Or you can always buy her a star. That's always really unique. And then when she's older buy the telescope so you can show her the star.
Good luck with it.

Set up a saving account in her name.I know askinh for money sounds bad but that way you have something started for her future.Insist to people that you really do have everything you need for now but this is a continuing present for her future.I did it with my daughter and we got close to $350.Good luck and i hope no matter what you have a wonderful holiday.

Look into your states GET (guaranteed education tuition) program, each state is a little different but basically you buy your college tuition now. My Son is 5 and I already have 3 years of his college paid for with this program, they say by the time he is 18 college will be $80,000+ a year! There are several ways to do it but you dont have to comit to anything if you dont want to, you can just purchase one unit at a time (100 units is guaranteed to pay for 1 year at a state university)right now its around $70 per unit.

I will tell you something that my cousin's other grandparents did. They started a pearl necklace when she was born and added to it every year. My cousin treasures that necklace now. Another thing that I did for my son's baptism was tell folks that he had plenty of clothes and toys and such, but a donation into his college fund would be much appreciated both now and later. Hope this helps!

We've made special Christmas ornaments with their pictures in them for all of our kids when they were very young. It is so great to be able to look at them every year as we trim the tree.
Also, Diapers of any size are always good. :) A little impersonal, but eh.
I like the ideas that you've been sent by others. Savings Bonds, money, etc. Tell your family to use their imaginations.
Merry Christmas!

I like the "start a collection" idea. We've done it for all our boys and I have to say that the easiest one we have is snowglobes. They're not just for Christmas anymore and, as long as you have somewhere that you can display them over time, it's really quite fun. My son with that collection is now 14 and he still loves it. We get globes as souveniers when we go on vacation or for birthday gifts, etc., too.
You could also ask for a charitable "adoption" in her name. There are all kinds of non profits that let you adopt an animal in her name. My 8 year old wanted to adopt a sea turtle last year so that's how I'm familiar with it. Your local zoo may have a program like that, too (are you in the Portland area? Washington Park Zoo may still have a program like this going; they used to).
Finally, ask relatives to go to www.heifer.org. You can purchase an entire animal/flock or a share of one that the organization then sends to an impoverished place in the world in an effort to end world hunger.

My son is 5 months and I am going through the same thing. Nobody wants to buy pratical gifts like savings bonds or diapers and formula. I fianlly asked for things in bigger sizes so I will have stuff for him as he grows and I won't have to buy it. I also put a limit on the amount otherwise it just gets out of control. Also books are a good idea. It's something you can never have enough of. We also asked for a high chair and a booster seat. Good luck and have a merry christmas. M.

Hi, I guess it's kinda hard for a 2 month old. I was in the same situation with my Daughter (who is now 7), she was born a few weeks early on 12/8, and the entire family felt like they had to run out and buy a "regular" christmas for her. One thing that her Great Grandparents did was purchase Savings Bonds. We also just opened a college fund, and the family can put money in there. Also, what about starting a little "collection" of something. For example: There are some new hallmark ornaments this year that are "first in a series", (a really pretty angel series) my mom collected Berta Hummel ornaments for me, so when I moved out, I had some nice ornaments for my first christmas to put on MY first tree. I have a girlfriend who was purchased a piece (or set, I can't remember) of China, so by the time she moved out, she had a set. Anyways, hope this helps with some ideas. Good Luck & Merry Christmas!!!!

I personally can't think of anything that would be something that she could grow up with. But something that I asked my family for(my daughter was a month old at her first christmas) is things I acctually needed for her. Like: Diapers of the next size she will be going in to. Or clothing that she will need for the the next seasons coming up or her next size she will be entering. It helped us out alot. Hope it helps a little

If you really have everything you need for your daughter ask them to set up an IRA for her. By the time she's old enough for college the interest would have built up. Another thing, you may think you have everything you need but for most likey the next 2 years, you will be needing diapers and they are expensive after a while. Ask for a gift card to use at Babies R Us. You can get anything you need there.

Our little Princess is 6 weeks as of Monday and my husband and I are going to be getting her a personalized piggy bank with her name on it. Or another thing you could do is if family members have their own photo's of her, or you could make copies of your own, each person (family group) could make a personalized scrapbook page of their own to put in a larger scrapbook for her. Other then that I'm not sure sorry.

hi V.,
i'm with the other moms who said savings bonds or just a good old fashioned savings account. both my son and daughter were given money for their accounts for the first 2 christmas' by both sets of grandparents and some other relatives. and i'll tell you, it adds up! let your relatives know there will be plenty of years for them to spoil her with adorable outfits and frivolous toys. if they are insistent on a tangible item, books are always great. you can start the collection now and pass them on to other little ones if you have them!

At that age all I wanted was diapers, wipes, ect...I know they are not really 'fun' items. But your daughter is 2 months old so she doesn't know. And they are things you go through and are costly.
Good Luck!

My dad and grandparents have been getting my baby savings bonds for her birthday and Christmas. Also, are her ears pierced? If they are or if you are planning on getting them pierced, ask for earrings. My baby is 16 months and she has gone through so many earrings. She started pulling them out around 8 months, so I always ask for earrings.

I agree with what's already been said--ask for things down the road like toys and clothes appropriate to 6mos. I'm also never shy about asking for gift cards to somewhere like Target where you can get basics when you need them or something more fun for the little one. I'd also recommend books.
Not exactly the advice you're looking for, but I often find that people want to buy what they want to buy for babies and little kids and what they're really looking for is some sort of general theme or idea, so maybe just tell them the colors of your nursery and the name of a toy or linen (or whatever) company that you like...I spent most of November saying "Robots or anything from Melissa and Doug"

how about customized stuff, like a growth chart you could put on her wal, monogramed silver cup and spoon, letters from everyone about when they first saw her and put them in a scrapbook. You could just ask for toys or what not that she will need and or find interesting at any time before her next birthday and just put them away like a shape sorter block or one of those bead mazes kids love those.

My son is 8 months old and this is his first Christmas. Instead of gettin him toys and what not I actually got him a Baby's first Christmas ornament. It is a little book where you can record their first present, their favorite toy, who they spent it with, cutest moment and etc. You can even put a picture in there so that when she gets older she can look at it and know that she had a great first Christmas. Its from Carlton Cards, I believe you can find it at any Hallmark Cards store. The ornament is called Baby's First Christmas Record Book. It has a picture of Humpty Dumpty on it where the title of the book is A Special Christmas Baby Book.
Hope that you have a great Christmas.

I would suggest first christmas ornament(start a tradition) also summer clothes in the appropiate size 6-9 mos would be good often you think that you will have everything but then the next season comes and they are so much bigger and all of a sudden you have nothing. fall babies are hard because you can end up with sooo much winter cloths and hardly any summer cloths. also what I did was bought things that I needed like combs makeup papertowels then wrapped them and put them under the tree so that we got great pics but they aren't going to remember what was given to them.

I've got a 2 month old baby boy. What I did for him (and for his 3 y.o. brother) was open a UPromise 529 college fund. www.upromise.com I've got a house full of toys. I ask the grandparents to contribute to their college fund. If they MUST get a toy, I ask that they get one toy, something small, and then contribute to the college fund. They've been mostly good about it.

Maybe a college fund. I can't think of the name right off. It's like an IRA. You invest now and by the time she's in college it should make a dent in her tuition. As I'm sure you know college isn't cheap. I hope this helps. Have a happy holiday.

You can always ask that they get her teething toys, or just toys in general, so that she has something to play with when she gets bigger. Time is going to fly and before you know it she will be on the floor playing. Or you can ask for pretty picture frames so that you can put pictures of her in her room and all around your house. Good Luck and Merry Christmas

My son is almost 22 months old. When a family memeber asks what to get him for B-days or Holidays I just tell them he has enough toys and clothes. I also tell them that if they want to contribute what they would spend to his Education Savings Account they can. I started doing this about a year and a half ago instead of spending the money on stuff he really doesn't need. Sometimes I will go get him a few little things with the money so he has something to open from his grandparents and then the rest goes to the bank.

Hi V.!
My son is 13 months old and I too have plenty of toys and clothes for him. So I ask for money for his savings account (which I opened when he was 2 months old and I plan to turn over to him at an appropiate age - maybe 18 or 21) or one set of grandparents gets him savings bonds. Or it's often helpful to get clothes for the future months or years to stow away until needed. Take care!
