Are Any of You Experiencing This Too

Hello Moms
I am a 38 year old female with 4 children 22,21,18 and 12. I say for the past year I have been having the worst pain with my breast sometime a week or two before my menstural (period) comes. I tried to ease off some of the things that they say might affect it like coffee soda and salt. I was honeslty thinking of getting my breast taken off because the pain is at time unbearable. Has anyone else experienced this.

What can I do next?

I would check with your doctor, but I think it's just your hormones. Besides eating a healthy diet and avoiding all excess caffiene and sodium, I agree with Liz S. Evening Primrose oil is great with straightening out any menstrual discomforts and helps balance the hormones. It's especially great for cyclical breast pain, which is probably what you're experiencing. So a healthy diet, and an intake of daily EFA's will improve, if not totally resolve your issue. Just be careful of GLA's if you have any history of Epilepsy. Here's a good link to look over:

I agree. Get a mammo and see if there's a cyst. they can be harmless but very painful.

Yes!
I have had breast tenderness (pain!)associated with my period for most of my adult life. Sometimes the pain lasts most of the month and sometimes only a week or two before my period, but it usually goes away right after my period. I also sometimes get a pinching pain that last only a few minutes that comes and goes. I have fibercystic breast and notice the cysts (and pain) can get worse if I drink a lot of coffee and/or wine. I have always seen a breast specialist who helps me monitor the cysts in my breasts and she said that 'usually' cancerous tumors are not painful the way cysts can be. I think that you should see a doctor just to make sure everything is ok and he or she may also be able to help with pain relief. A good Dr. that is open to alternative therapies can probably tell you if the evening Primrose oil or some herbal remedy might help. I have never tried any of them, but have heard that they can help.

All the best,
B.

I agree with others who advised to go see a doctor just to make sure it's only cyclical hormones. And congrats to you for going back to school and doing so well! See a doctor soon so your mind can concentrate on your studies and family. And be sure to get enough sleep!

YES!!!! Oh my gosh, I thought I was going crazy... I would be mid-sentence with a patient at work (I am a nurse) and suddenly get these ripping breast pains that took my breath away!

I spoke to my many midwife connections and they all recommended Evening Primrose Oil as a daily supplement (one capsule a day). One also recommended Vitamin E.

I am happy to say that once I started the Evening Primrose about 15 months ago I have never had the pain again! In the early days of taking it, I would forget for a week or so at a time and the pain would return. Now I am religious about it!

Take it every day, not just mid-menstrual cycle. Good luck!

I just wanted to tell you that I get pains also with my cycle, but I have found out that it is because I have cysts in my breast. They are nothing to worry about (in my case at least) but they just get swollen right before my period & it makes me tender to the touch & it can be painful, but only when the cysts swell. I am fine the rest of the month. I don't know if this is something that you have looked into yet, but it could be worth checking out. I don't know if there's anything that can be done, but I would imagine if it was cysts & they were so unbearable, they could be removed. I wish you well, please let us know how things go.

yeah, i get that pain. mine's mostly in the nipple area, but all of my breast is tender around my menstrual cycle. i've had the breast exams from my dr just about every time i get the pap done, and they say they don't feel anything. though a friend of mine has the same thing, and she said that her hurt so bad she's also thought of "lopping" them off! for her, it started with just 1 breast being like that, and her dr found she had some lumps (benign) they had them removed and she was fine for about 2 yrs, then she started getting the pain back, and had to go through it all over again. about another 2 yrs later, she got the pain back again, this time in both breasts, and once again, surgery. but every time the lumps were benign, and her mother happens to get the same thing. so just go to the dr. and get yourself checked out. good luck.

Go to the doctor, immediately! It may be nothing, but don't dare take a chance. You could have a cyst that is reacting to the estrogen in you monthly cycles. Most of them are benign, but why take a chance? You have so many children depending on you, please do not neglect your health! Promise that you will make it a priority.
