Hi, Im back. Well I need some advise as to what might be causing this pain. My two breasts feel really sore like I had a huge workout (which I did not) they hurt and ache. And just plain hurt when I touch them. I do not think that Im pregnant as we have been using protection, but Im scared to what might be causing this? I am not due to start on my period until beg of next month. Can someone please tell me what could be causing this or if you have gone through something like this. If I press down on my nipple they feel hard and hurt, but if I press around on the actual boob they are not hard, they just ache and hurt and feel sore. Advise please!

I had this same pain like you and called my doctor. I had started a new job and was drinking more caffeine. She told me to cut back and the pain went away. I went from 4to 5 cups of coffee to two a day.

Of course pregnancy is the obvious answer. But since you don't think you are it could be a change in your hormones. If it doesn't go away in a few days, I would talk to you GYN about it.

Also do you sleep on your stomach? That might be causing it as well.

Hi A.~

I believe the soreness is normal right before beginning your menstrual cycle. My breasts always get very sore and hard just about one or two weeks before my cycle.....I wouldn't worry too much:)

You didn't say what kind of protection you are using, but I've been on the pill for years, and I know that if I miss a day and have to make it up (and sometimes if I'm even just a couple hours late), my breasts will get a little tender. I've also noticed that as I've gotten older, I've become more prone to getting tender. Also, as someone else pointed out, no method of birth control is 100% (meet my daughter). I'd just wait it out a until your period is due, take a pregnancy test, and go from there.

Hi A.,

I'd wait a week or two and then go ahead and take a pregnancy test. No method of planning is 100%. If the test is negative and the pain persists, call your doctor.

Everyone here gave you good advice, I wouldn't worry too much about it, pain in one breast I might worry a little, pain in both is most likely your coming period, and I guess the possibility of pregnancy, but I don't remember my breasts being sore in the first month of pregnancy, so i wouldn't worry too much about that either. Your period will come (unless you are so stressed that you keep it from coming. relax, wait it out.

Have you checked your breasts for any lumps? I have a bunch of cysts in my breasts and they cause quite a bit of pain. They are not cancer, but they are painful. I have been checked by the doctor several times, and everything comes out fine. Turns out that after having kids I just became prone to them. I would check yourself and see if you find anything. Then go to a doctor either way just to be safe. Maybe wait a week to see if you start so that you have a better idea of what to tell the doctor of what's going on. Good luck and I hope it's nothing major. I will say that my breasts do start hurting about a week or so before my period and sometimes more often during the month. It has to do with the swelling of the cysts I have. So it could be something like that.

I'll be keeping you in my prayers,
D.

I had the same problem and the doctor said that it was fibrocystic brest condition. I also had to start wearing a different bra since they hurt if i ran or anything. check out this

Hello Annabelle,
I have always had problems with achyness in my breasts also. After going to the Dr several times, it was ruled that it was Caffeine that i was drinking. I'm not a soda person, so all I ever have is water, sometimes one glass of tea every few days, and about a 4 oz of coffee each morning. But the Dr. said that I am freshly new to caffeine sensitivity (never have been before) and even the 4 oz that I drink in the morning makes my breasts feel like I have been hit by a mack truck. Also if I drink this coffee (or tea or chocolate) for a few days in a row the caffeine will build up and by the 4th or 5th day I have a hard time even putting a bra on. So anyway, you might want to think about caffeine. Cutting out chocolate, go to decaf everything.

After my son was born, we used protection as well so we were surprised to find I was pregnant when our son was four months old. Yikes! My breast were so tender that the weight of my shirt hurt to wear. If you have not made an appointment already, go see your doctor. It could be something simple, you could need to start those prenatal vitamins again, or you may need to address something more serious. Congratulations if you are pregnant again--and two to three years apart is a great spread! Good luck!

This could be due to a hormonal issue (which could include pregnancy). Also excessive caffeine intake could cause this type of pain. Either way you should probably get this checked out.

See a doctor. It could be anything, from pregnancy to mastitis to cancer--the sooner you find out, the sooner you can fix the problem.

Pregnant, wrong sized bra, not enough support in current bra. Your PMS is starting earlier in your cycle causing this soreness?.. Once you test for pregnancy, if it is negative , go to the doctor.
