H.K.
Dr. Ewan Tseng has offices in Plano and Frisco. He is great! I am a patient as well as my two kids.
My husband has called several ENTs to request an appointment and they don't even want his name or symptoms, just his insurance info before they'll agree to give him an appointment. He went so far as to tell one he'd pay cash and they said they didn't want him as a patient. I guess I must be getting old! All the doctors I've known that were interested in the health of their patients have died or retired. Yes we have insurance. No it's not great insurance. But we can afford an ENT appointment and would pay whatever the insurance doesn't cover. But frankly I don't want to go to any doctor who has hired an outside company to determine who gets treatment and who doesn't. I have a friend who waited 2 months for an appointment. During the appointment she asked the doctor a slightly different (although related) question and was told she'd have to schedule another appointment to ask a second question. This is getting pretty common. Do all the new doctors go into medicine for the money and prestige or are there any (old probably) doctors left who actually have a passion for medicine and healing?
Mary, I did not intend to offend you. But we have had some very bad experiences in recent years with many medical practitioners. One series of events almost cost my daughter her life and it did cost a 39 year old friend her life. She was 7 months pregnant at the time, too. You are fortunate to work in a place where this uncaring attitude is not the case. But in our experience it is the exception. I agree with you that the problem is related to the Insurance company participation in the medical industry. By the way, long years in school and "crappy" hours are not reserved for medical practitioners. It happens in lots of industries. I don't think it's a good reason to treat people discourteously. If someone hates what they do, they should do something else. Life's short to run around that miserable every day. I can give lots and lots and lots of personal experiences that validate what I am saying here. I don't think I am alone in feeling this way either. But offending someone was never my intent and I am sorry you felt personally attacked.

We saw Dr. Moore in Plano. We liked him a lot! He was one of the most caring doctors we ever had!
i think you need to lay off the medical community a little bit. medical offices ask you what insurance you have because not all doctors are contracted with all insurance companies. we ask you up front what insurance you have so that you don't go through all the work of scheduling an appointment only to find out that the office doesn't take your insurance. yes, it's rude to ever hang up on someone and yes, it's rude if that's the first words out of a receptionist's mouth. but it's just a practical matter that we have to know what insurance you have.
as far as your friend who was told to schedule another appointment to ask another question...that seems rather strange unless it was a very involved question. we schedule appointments with enough allotted time to cover what the patient said they were coming in for. if someone starts to ask a ton of other questions it can take 3 or 4 times the allotted time and the doctor may have to schedule another appointment since the patient wasn't up front about all the issues they were experiencing.
if you think doctors go into the business for money, you're dead wrong. what other industry gets paid less every year while working harder and longer and also takes on all the liablity issues while working incredibly crappy hours? going to college for 4 yrs, med school for 4 yrs and residency for 4-8 years demands a decent salary but you could make much more money by going into business. the days of the "rich doctor" are long done thanks to medicare cutbacks...it's now the days of the "rich insurance companies".
I'm not sure about the insurance questions but my son sees Dr. Roger Skiles in Frisco and he is wonderful. He sees children and adults. His office is off Warren and Legacy near the tollway. He was in the "Best Doctors in Dallas" magazine for 3 or 4 years. My son had to have tubes placed in his ears and recently had a sinus infection that he treated and he seems to really care about his patients. I don't remember if his staff asked about insurance right from the start though.

Good Luck!
Our whole family sees Dr. Ewen Tseng (he offices in Plano and Frisco). He is absolutely wonderful! He has done tubes in all 3 of my children and taken their tonsils out. My husbund is going to have his tonsils removed by Dr. Tseng soon. He is very caring and has never rushed us in our appointments. I would highly recommend him!
I second Dr. Roger Skiles in Frisco. He saw my 4 month old son and was very thorough and patient with our questions. We really liked him and my husband and I will use him if we have any ENT issues.
Good luck to you and have a wonderful day!
Unfortunately, I ran into the same situation when I tried to find a doctor earlier this year. I was shocked when the first words out of the appointment setter's mouth were "what insurance do you have?" when they answered the phone. When I said "Unicare," they immediately responded "we are not accepting new patients at this time and hung up. It's not bad insurance; we're certainly paying enough in premiums for it! I guess it's just good enough for some doctors in the area. My husband runs his owns business, so perhaps some doctors' offices are too snobbish to take on a patient who might be self-employed. Who knows what the real reason is.
You may need to call your insurance company and tell them that you're having trouble finding a doctor and see if they will help you.
Good luck.
Dr. Lawrence Weprin with Baylor. He has offices in Dallas and in N. Garland off 190 and Shiloh.
My family has been using Dr. Timothy Trone at Medical City and I have found his office to be responsive and caring. My 3 yr old was in and out of the hospital earlier this year, and finally had her tonsils removed. Dr. Trone helped us when our pediatrician's office seemed not to care that she was repeatedly running 104 to 105 degree temps. I do not know how his office views various insurance issues; we have excellent insurance through Aetna, but his office has always been helpful to our family, including my husband and I, and I highly recommend him. His number is ###-###-####. I believe he is opening a new office soon in Plano.
We were fortunate enough to find a terrific ENT off of 121. I'm not sure if that's close to you or not, but she is wonderful. And her staff is great too. My 2 year old son had his second round of tubes and then got his adenoids removed. Our son was in great hands.
