Are There Any VBAC Friendly Doctors in the Denver/Metro Area?

Hi, We just moved to the area in November. I have a two year old son. I am thinking of trying to get pregnant within the next 6-9 months and I was wondering if there are any doctors around that are willing to attempt a VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean). I had a c-section with my son because after an induction, 22 hours of labor, and over two hours of pushing, he wouldn't come out. I really don't want another c-section. I have read a lot about VBACs and I don't feel that it is any more dangerous than having another c-section. My sister's first baby was a c-section because her baby was breech. She has since had five more babies, including a set of twins, all vaginally. If you want to discourage me from trying a VBAC because of what you believe, please don't respond. I would just really like to know if any doctors aroud here will even consider it. The doctor that I had my son with was willing to let me, but now that we have moved it is obviously impossible. Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

Do your research on the doctors/clinics that do VBAC.

But if you had an uncomplicated pregnancy (last and this one), and dont' have a pelvic malformation to physically give birth, then there isn't any medical reason I can think of that you couldn't VBAC this time if you want.

GOod luck and hopefully all will work out as you want.

I had the same issue when I got pregnant after a c-section 3 years prior. All the doctors I talked to wanted to do a c-section with just a single baby and I was having twins- they didn't even want me to go into labor, but instead induce me 3-4 weeks prior to the due date. It was so frustrating! I did a lot of research and Clinica Campesina has great doctors and from my experience they will do everything possible for you to have the birth you want as long as you and baby are not at risk. I told them I at least wanted to go into labor naturally and go from there. The biggest piece of advice I can give you is to have an open mind. I desperately wanted to have a VBAC with my twins and had my birth plan all written out- but at the same time I knew I needed to have an open mind and if it came to having a c-section than I was ok with that. I did go into labor naturally but when I got to the hospital both babies had turned breech and they got me ready for surgery right away. Just remember that the most important thing is that you and baby are healthy and safe- but don't let any doctor tell you that you cannot try for the birth you want just because of your previous birth experience! I hope this helps!

Have you thought about homebirth? It is just as safe and the quality of care is superior. There are many great midwives in the area if you are interested.

Have you tried Boulder Women's Care? They may be a bit of a drive, but well worth it! They are in the Boulder Community Foothills Hospital in Boulder off Arapahoe & Foothills.

T.,
Dr. Carole Christensen at Avista is I think what the other response is -- but also try Boulder Foothills Hospital -- it is a little further from Westminster, but the c-section rate and intervention rate at Boulder is very low compared to surrounding areas. I see Dr. Tracy Jones and her partners are all very good. She is located in Foothills Hospital.

I know a lot of friends that their second was vaginal after one csection. I was the opposite as my son who had to be a csection was enormous however I think if you call around you will be surprised to find Dr's that do this. If you live in Westminster try Centennial Valley Womens Clinic in Louisville or there is another OBGYN in that same office suites at Avista that I hear great things about (I cannot think of the name). I think there are some minor risks involved if you have had one csection but call around to local OBGYNs and just ask the nurses there. I have two friends that had vaginal births after csections and they went fine.

Mary Beth Bissell is a great dr. out of Avista hospital in Louisville. I know she will do a vbac even on twins. Obviously depending on your medical history...
