We're considering investing in a trundle bed. It would go in a tiny guest bedroom along with our son's crib. When the bottom bed is pulled out, do the two beds together take up as much space as a king-size bed? Are they pretty easy to use?
According to Wiki, 2 twin size bed is wider than a king.

My sons are in the same room, and have a Captains Bunk Bed, w/ a trundle. My 5 yr olds bed is the bunk, (course he's still affraid to sleep on top so they sleep together for nwo) and we moved our 2 yr old out of his crib into the trundle. It's low enough to the ground that it's perfect for him. It takes up so much less room than two seperate beds. We roll the bed back under during the day & they have LOADS of room to play.

I did have a trundle for years when the kids were smaller and it was great. Wish I'd kept it while they were teens and then their dirty clothes woudln't be living under the beds now....
I had a trundle bed growing up, and it always came in handy when a guest stayed over. They just roll right out and then right back in. Definately worth it in my opinion!
