Does anybody have a solution to removing/preventing armpit stains in white shirts? I have tried switching deodorants. It doesn't make a difference. I guess it is just me. To remove the stains I have tried bleach, Oxi-clean and aspirins (read that one recently...doesn't work). Any tried and true suggestions out there? Thanks in advance.

Hi L., I am a grandmother so we are going way back in the day, but when I was waitressing for a catering company we used believe it or not cascade on our shirts. That's right the dishwasher soap. We would put our shirts in a bucket and soak them in cascade and hotwater over night and then wash them because bleach would turn them yellow after a while and cascade did not. Hope this helps ! M.

You might try googling using vinegar for laundry purposes, I know you can use it for a lot of stuff, and can recall someone telling me it can get out armpit stains too.

Hi L.!
I hear white vinegar works although I've never tried it. I remember having a hard time with stains like that when I lived in the south and had hard water and used bleach. Something about the reaction between the hard water, the bleach and either the deoderant or the sweat caused the stains. When I stopped using bleach the stains stopped appearing. You could also try peroxide. That's the nurses little secret to getting out blood stains (works like a charm I might add). It might work on those too.

Ugh I had the same problem... I haven't found anything to get out the stains but I started using Secret Clinical Protection and its been preventing them! You should try it if you haven't already. It's a little more pricey than regular deoderant but it's well worth it!

The best stain remover I've found is the Spray n Wash stick. Put it on the stains when you take the shirt off, and then wash as usual. I also put a scoop of oxyclean in every wash. Works pretty well on baby/toddler/preschool messes, so should work for your white shirt.

I do not know of any method to remove them once they are there. But I have heard that if you let your deodorant dry completely before putting on clothing it will not leave the yellow stain.

Hi L., I do have a solution to your armpit stains. I use Shaklee's non-toxic laundry detergent - it is a great detergent and one of the best pre-spotters I have ever used. I, too, have a real issue with underarm stains and, like you, changed deodorants so many times trying to correct the problem. Actually, I now use Shaklee's roll-on deodorant which has cut down the problem. Anyway, whenever I put a turtleneck, t-shirt or blouse in the wash, I pre-spot it under the arms with the Shaklee detergent - it really has made a difference. I also use their Nature Bright, which is a laundry booster/stain fighter. It works to whiten whites and brighten colors. It is a granular powder that you mix with warm water and add right on top of the detergent in the automatic dispenser in your washing machine. Every couple of months, I mix up some Nature Bright with a little detergent in hot water in my laundry sink and soak my whites for a few hours, then wring them out and throw them in the wash. Nature Bright often takes out old stains also. I love all the Shaklee products as they are non-toxic or all-natural and have become a distributor (makes sense since I am always telling people about them - might as well earn some money for my effort) Just go to my web site www.emilytaft.com and click on "Home Care" on the menu to your left. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me any time at ###-###-#### or ____@____.com Hope this helps. E. Taft

I had the same issue years ago. A friend of mine says it is due to the deodorants and laundry detergent. I never found anything else to help the problem so I stopped buying white shirts of any kind. But recently my mom bought me a white maternity shirt and I don't seem to have the problem any more. Wonder if it has to do with the water when washing the shirt? Good luck, sorry I could not be of help. But just wanted to let you know you are not the only one...LOL!

FYI don't reply to Lisa W. She is only trying to get you into her "company" to make "risidual money". I got myself into one of those companies (I will not mention their name) and it was nothing but a headache and waste of MONEY!! Their products also SUCK.

L.,
I don't have a solution to the stains but I do know of a way to prevent them. When you get a new shirt, turn it inside out and sprinkle it with baby powder, then iron it. You should only have to do this once. I saw this tip on GMA and tried it and it actually works.

Good luck.

I use Shout for lots of stains, not sure about armpit stains as it's been a long time since I've had that problem. I had terrible wetness problems. My complete(no wetness no matter what life throws at me) 'cure' is Skin So Soft anti-perspirent/deoderant (Avon). They have lots of scents. I like the soft and sensual...very light. It is a roll on but dries so quickly, you don't even think about that. Doesn't leave white marks on clothes either. Most times it is on sale for 99 cents.
