My 14 year old daughter sweats profusely and leaves yellow stains on her clothes under the armpits. These are my questions, please help: (1) How do I clean the yellow stains off her shirts; (2) what can she do and wear to help control the prespiration? Your help, as always, is appreciated.

Hi S.,

I learned this trick from ex-Mother-in-law whose husband had really bad ring around the collar. She used a "bad" shampoo such as Pert or Prell on the collar, did a little scrubbing and then dropped it in the wash. She said that because these shampoos strip the hair of its oil, it does the same for oil based stains such as the oil from perspiration. I've used it a few times and it works, you might want to try too.

As for the sweating itself, Certain Dri is a great 'prescription strengh' anti-perspirant and deoderant combo. I used it for awhile, but the anti-perspirant portion ended up irritating my skin. I have a friend who uses it and loves it though.

Both Dove and Suave have clinical deodorants. They smell nice and they really work. They may cost a bit more then regular deodorant but so worth the cost. I have always had that problem of sweating too much, but when these deodorants came along I was saved from the embarrissing moments. Good Luck.

Spray vinegar diluted with water on her clothes. It will remove the stain and smell.

I found a product that took out armpit stains from my clothing. I have used everything on and off the market and nothing has worked. So when I tried this Pitstop I was very skeptical. I put it on and into the wash and expected to see the stains when I took it out. There were no stains it was unbelieveable!! I have never seen something work so well on a stain especially armpit stains.

As a plus size girl I get the perspiration stains during the summer. I have found Oxi-clean is the best. I soak the garment and then wash as usual. It works great and there is no damage like bleach or discoloration like using shampoos, yes I tried that trick and it stained. Try a clinical strenght deodorant and also talk to her doctor. It really a common problem in the teen years as the hormones go nuts. Good luck!!

I have a 15 year old who also perspires a lot. I have used bleach to try to remove the stains, but it just doesn't do the trick. It's embedded and I have not found a product that will work.
The suggestion I have for the perspiration is do not use anti perspirants. They have too many chemicals. I have changed over to natural deodorants and no yellow stains. It's been really good and has saved us from buying white tshirt after tshirt. Hope this helps.

Not sure about getting the stain out, but I agree with the unscented deodorant. Arm and Hammer makes a good one.

My gosh, finally someone else with this armpit super-sweaty problem.
I did it through high school and grew out of it, and my poor teenage daughter at around 14 did it and she was mortified. It is a hormonal thing. I took my teen(now 17 still has problem but not quite as bad)to the doctor and she prescribed a deoderant specifically made for that problem, and it works. Go to the family doc.

Hi S.,

Use Nature Bright Laundry Booster and Stain Remover from Shaklee. It is the BEST stain remover. I soak clothes in it all the time (I have a 4yr old) and everything always comes out. It works even better when paired with Shaklee's laundry detergent. Just add both to your washer with each load. The best thing is it's safe (made from corn and coconut.) It's also super concentrated so it lasts a long time which saves you money. Shaklee has toxin-free personal care products that are great and I think their roll-on deodorant works better than anything else I've ever tried. Check these products out at www.greennutrition.info and register to win $200 of free products at www.freegreenproducts.info. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

HI -- I had the same problem. Most female deodrants have frangrance and perfume added -- which also contribute to the stain. I switched over to a male deodrant and have had a lot of success. I'm not sure about the stains. I've tried Shout, OxyClean, etc. Nothing ever seems to take it totally away. I'll be checking to see if you find anything. Good Luck.

Hi S., I have the same issue with my 14 y.o. son. What has worked for him is deodorant soap followed up with the "clinical" strength deodorant for under arms. It seems to be working very well. Believe me he has REAL odor and sweat issues. As for the yellow stains, you may not be able to get those out. I get them as I have a sweat issue too, they just done come out. You may also want to try those clothes protector things, I fogot what they are called, but they are to be worn under your clothes (specifically under the arm) to help with sweat.
Darn it, I really cant remember.
Anyway, good luck

Your family Dr. can prescribe a cream she can rub on. It really helps. My sister and I had this problem and it can be really embarrassing.

Putting about a half cup of vineger in with the laundry should help prevent the stains, but I have not been able to figure out how to get them out. They have at the store really strong anti-persperants that work well. Certain dry was the first one we tried, and I think it works the best, but degree recently came out with one that is quite a bit cheaper. It says perscription strength on th box. Good luck!

I sweat a lot as a teen and also my husband so our daughter was doomed. For her, changing deodorants back and forth periodically helps with the sweat and oder. The only thing I have found that gets the yellow out is SoiLove. Apply and scrub then wash as usual, no dryer until you see if it's out . It might take several times if it's set but it works.

Hello S.,

Unfortunately my younger sister and I both suffered with this same issue since we both hit puberty as well. Luckily there seems to be so much more help these days than when we were your daughters age.

1. The one thing for stains that has worked the best for me is Oxi-clean. I soak my gaments in it first then wash in the washer with a bit more oxi-clean added to the wash water. Also, I would treat that area on all her clothes from the first wearing, because once you get to the staining stage, sometimes there is no hope.
2. we both used a prescription deodorant once we were aware it was there, it worked well, but would cause irritation. Then Certain Dri came out and it was the same thing as the prescription but also tended to irritate. So now we both use the Soft n Dri clinical strength and it actually works really well for wetness. It doesn't work fabulous for odor, so your daughter would just need to be aware and probably know to shower more, I tend to take one both morning and evening as I live in the heat.

I hope this helps in some way, I truly understand how frustrating this is for her and I wish her the best.

S.

I think that the deodorant your daughter is using may be causing the yellow-ness. I don't have specific information as to what brands, but you might want to try a few and see if that helps.

Certain Dri has been a life saver for me! I would follow the directions closely - you use it at night before going to sleep. It did sting a little, but that stopped after using it a few times. Now I only need it about once a week or so and my clothes aren't stained like they used to be. I worry about it not being as safe as a natural product, but use it anyway because I feel like it's well worth the risk!

nothing will ever get the stain out. but using not unscented, but regular-not antiperspirant is what you need. i know thats a bummer because she sweats a lot, but the antiperspirant is what causes it. i use toms natural or some other natural product, and honestly it doesn't really work, but my shirts have stayed stain free. life stinks for girls. haha no pun intended!
