Well, I have been married over 25 years but, the only thing that I could think of that you might need to pay for as a Maid of Honor but, if you are married you should be the Matron of Honor, is if you wanted to give a shower or a bridal luncheon. Now, I have been married a long time but, that is the way it was done then.

You're responsible for the "girl's night out" before the wedding. Lots of planning. You also have to give her a wedding shower.

Happy for you. It's hectic but fun!

You have gotten the best advice from the gal that is soon to be part of a wedding. I just had an idea for your events. At my son's wedding (2.5 years ago) they had a party with all the Bridesmaids (they included me too, wasn't that nice) to go to a lovely spa in north Dallas and we had awesome pedicures together. This place had like 12 stations with foot bath chairs. They had lovely food catered in and it was just a few days before the wedding so we all got paint jobs to match the dresses we were wearing. It was a fun evening and we were the only people there at the shop. The gifts we gave her were strictly undies and such. She got some really pretty things that I assume she took on their honeymoon trip.

oooh...you got the big job (ps..moved here from boca...you'll love it here!)...not only do you throw the shower (unless her mother wants to do that..i've notice people defer the hosting of the shower over to mom if she wants it)...you buy your dress and coordinate everything that day (...all the details that she wont be able to do and remeber..get a notepad!! really it is whatever she wants you do to...for ex..take her dress to the cleaners after she leaves...bring the gifts to her mom's house after the wedding, MAKE SURE THE MEN KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING THAT DAY , etc...(that last one is the big one!!) )..oh,..and help her get ready for her pictures that she takes before the wedding...just keep callig her and asking her what she needs and what she thinks she will need that day

Y.,
I have been a maid of honor before, biggest thing offer your help for anything - you throw the bachelorette party and sometimes wedding shower (ask her if anyone else is planning that one). You're her number one girl the day of the wedding. Have you known her forever - I think a good gift would be an album with pics of ya'll in the first half - and blank pages for her new "best friend" in the second half, along with the usual registry gift. Have fun!!!

Hi Y.,
Congratulations to your friend! In addition to the regular party hosting etc. You may offer to help her with some of the wedding planning duties such as going with her to find a dress or choose the flowers or cake. Sometimes a bride appreciates a good friend's advice, but of course this is up to her. It could be a lot of fun too! Good luck.

Congrats! I've been a bridesmaid several times and I always had to pay for my dress, shoes, etc.

In addition to dress, shoes - maybe hair and makeup too. Also, you'll probably be a hostess for a shower and maybe a bachelorette party, too (expenses you'll hopefully share with other hostesses).

Congrats to you and her!

Paying for your dress, shoes, hair and accessories is usually a given. Also, most of the time it's nice for the honor attendant to host a shower and/or a bachelorette party. It seems that a lot of times the maid/martron of honor will try and get the other bridesmaids to help split the costs of these events.

Congrats & enjoy the fun!

I'm a maid of honor for my sister's wedding in April. Other than buying my dress and shoes, I am also paying for an artist to come to th ehotel and do our makeup and updos on the day of the wedding. I am also in charge of her bachelorette party, and bridal/lingerie shower. You don't have to necessarily pay for the parties, but you are in charge of organizing it and contacting the girls, getting them to chip in,etc. Expenses should be shared equally among the girls. Instruct them to save all receipts for decorations, gag gifts, shower invites, etc. As maid of honor, you'll be in charge of tallying totals and hashing out who owes what.
You are also expected to make a toast at the wedding reception and to wait on the bride hand and foot the day of the wedding. Its a tough job believe it or not!!
Here is a site that explains your duties as maid of honor:
