A friend from church gave me a crib which is very nice but my problem is finding furniture to match it. Any ideas??? I have looked online at the websites that sell this brand and can't find anything. I would prefer, because of money to get something used but I am running out of ideas. I looked at The Flyer, ebay, craigslist, Once Upon a Child and at yard sales. The brand is Babi Italia and the color is listed as Pecan. I would appreciate any advice you can give me.

Spraying the furniture was actually suggested to me before but the crib is so pretty I don't want to spray paint it also just in case my friend is offened by me painting it. Also I wasn't sure how safe it would be to spray paint something that the baby will be exposed to everyday. But I do have some old furniture from my other girls that I could possible spray paint. I am just not sure that the type of finish would look painted. It has like a wallpaper kind of covering over it. I am not concerned with it matching exactly that is not I was after I just wanted something close in color. Thank you all for your ideas and suggestions.

What can I do next?

A.,

Have you thought about buying a design you like & painting everything the same color?

It is more work- & paint fumes are not good for expecting Moms so maybe a relative or friend could paint them for you?

Just a thought

I think you can certainly use white furniture to go with pecan. You can make the room look a little rustic and just match with great quilts and fabrics. You cannot go wrong with white, You also do not have to have all of the furniture match...that seems to be the new rule of decorating. Once I got past this it has been much easier and less expensive to decorate!
Good luck!

Well, you could go for a vintage look and intentionally mis-match and tie it together with a color theme (of your fabric and such). Or you can just find pieces that you like in structure, sand them all down and paint them and use new nobs and such (very easy project). Or you can buy all matching pieces except for the bed and let that be the highlight of the room, intentionally drawing attention to it. I did a bit of all these things for my daughter. I was given a bed. I bought a set of furniture that didn't really match the bed, but matched the other pieces that came with it. Then I sanded those bought pieces and painted them the same color as the bed and put on mew nobs that matched the theme I was going with. Then I put a (safe) canopy over the bed with other eye catchers to draw the attention there. I love doing these creative type things, so although this might not have been what you were looking for - I can say it has all worked for me and it is more fun than trying to match an impossible to find piece (I think). Good luck and have fun.

Hi A.,

You may want to try Babies R Us, Wal-Mart, or K-Mart. They all sell economical and attractive nursery furniture. If you do go with Ebay or Craigslist and cannot find woods that match, and this is a problem for you, then I recommend you just buy a can of spray paint and paint the furniture! It's not that hard, just make sure to cover your floors, or do it in the yard, and wear clothes you don't care about. I did this, I got used furniture from neighbors and relatives that either didn't match or had excess wear. After spraying everything down carefully with Lysol, I spray painted everything in a pastel pink, as I have a girl. Everyone said it looked gorgeous and people even started asking where I got this unique, girly furniture. They couldn't believe I made my own look! You can tie little ribbons around it and decorate it girly for a girl, or paint it a neutral color like a soft green, yellow, or sky blue for a boy, and decorate the walls and make your nursery match and look awesome. Good luck!

You can mix and match...why not? Although the crib will last for only a few years, make sure you select a dresser, end table, etc. that will stand the test of time, like through age 10.
My first thought was to paint the crib to match the rest of the furniture; but since it's such a nice piece, I wouldn't do it. Just pick out the pieces you like and coordinate with matching curtains and bedding...

You can try a couple of unfinished furniture stores, like BareWood or Wood You. Then you can pick any pieces that you like and have them stain them to match the crib or you can even do it yourself and save a little money. You can find coupons for BareWood in some of the flyers you receive in your mailbox.

Best of luck,

That is the brand that is sold exclusively at Babies R us. You can find things from time to time on e-bay. Also, if you decide to order from Babies-r-us, you have to go to the store because on-line it sometimes appears that they don't have anything in stock.
Other option is getting something at a yard sale until you can find matching furniture or you could always get something white in the meantime.
Good luck

You can buy unfinished furniture, at Wood You for example, and paint it to match yourself.....or, you can stop trying to match and just co-ordinate. If you look at some decorating magazines you'll see what I mean.

We bought everything used and nothing matches. I used fabrics and accessories to tie everything together. Your baby won't complain if the furniture doesn't match, I promise!

Considering the crib is only used for about 2 years...I say buy furniture you like that has the option for a twin bed for after the crib. I suppose you can do research...but I would be completely opposed to spray painting a crib. My son has chewed on the railings on his before while teething and the thought of him ingesting paint would be terrifying. Not worth it! Plus...who says everything has to match?! Check target website, jcpenney furniture and sears.

Rather than try to match perfectly... why don't you buy the pieces you want used... and perhaps paint them in colors you're using from the nursery? This way, you don't spend a lot, you may be able to use a dresser or whatever for a lot longer, as the child grows, even when crib is no longer there. Find a good sturdy piece in a consignment, yard sale or antique store or go back to craig's list and re-look. I always paint when I can't afford to match things up!

Good luck,
K.

Hi A.,

I like things to match as well but find that life doesn't let us do that all the time. Instead of going with a mismatch look (which is perfectly okay...)try to see if you can find pieces that match that will coordinate with your Pecan crib. Pecan is very pretty wood and quite pricey these days so highlighting it would be quite vogue. See if you can find a couple of matching pieces that will bring out the tone of the flecks/grains in the pecan...or vice versa with the pecan bringing out the grain in the other. Pecan and Walnut are good together and so is a soft immature oak.

God bless!

Hey,
Unless you feel like going crazy spending money/time to find the match's which will look best just take your time go to gararge sales/estate sales you might find something there. The cheapest thing to do is accesorize (linens and baby bedding) to make it match. Just remember the baby does not care if things match so don't dwell on it. Take your time and you will find the right peices, take a picture of the crib with you when you shop so you make sure you don't buy the wrong color.
Also, you can always re-stain in Pecan color, we just restained a crib it was alot of work but it was rewarding to my fiance. The crib was given to us and we wanted to put our personal touch on it.
Good Luck

USA Baby has a great selection, but it's pricey.

I don't know what area you live in, but this coming weekend is the Lolliposh Children's Consignment & Bazaar in Plantation - they have everything baby & child. They will also have maternity clothes this time. It's consignment, so the prices should be good. (it's saturday and sunday and on sunday everything is 50% off, but I would go saturday to make sure the good stuff isn't gone right away) No idea what they'll have this time as far as furniture goes, but it might be worth checking out. Get more info and the exact address at their website: www.lolliposh.com

Hope this helps!

Woods do not have to match. In my living room I have a mixture of woods: Pine, oak, and cherry. They all compliment each other very nicely. Pick out something you like and go for it.
