I always wove my bumpers through the bars. Like over one under atothe etc. You will have a gap, I just left it at the bottom. Stil helps protect from bumps and more importantly trapped arms and legs.
My son is 3 months old and is sleeping in his crib, and sleeping well I should add (he ususally sleeps until 4a before he needs a bottle). However, the crib bumper seems to be a magnet and I am super paranoid he is going to get all squished up next to it and not be able to breathe. We tried a wedge, but he scoots of them. Any tips?? I do have a breathable bumper on order, but in the meantime I'd like to get some sleep! Since I check on him all night. Thanks!

Take out the bumper. He doesn't really need it, I doubt he's rolling hard enough to get hurt on the slats of the crib. Bumpers are, in my opinion, more of a decoration anyway. (As he gets older and starts to pull up, for sure get rid of the bumper so he doesn't climb on it and fall out of the crib!)
My boys liked to be squished against something while they slept too. A crib is really big if you're only 3 mos old. He's probably finding the side so he can cuddle & not feel so out in the open. My older son rolled over at 3 weeks & never slept on his back again-he was much more comfortable on his belly. I'd put him on his back when I checked on him, but he'd be right back on his belly again not too long after that. My other son slept w/his face smashed to the bars, head under the bumper pads-almost like a blanket. Both were fine. As long as it's not vinyl, your little one *should* be fine too. Go to sleep mama & give thanks that he's giving you the opportunity to sleep.
My daughter does this too. It started way early. She would somehow scoot her way to the edge of her pack n play or crib and nestle her head against the edge. I took her bumper off and she still does it in her crib. You would think the hard wood would be a deterrent, but apparently not. My mom said all of her eight kids did this as well. You could use a baby monitor so you can hear him breathe. If he can turn his head on his own well, then he is probably okay. My daughter also liked to sleep face down and that would freak me out but every time i watched her she would stay that way for a while and then turn her head when she needed to. i don't have a ton of advice except maybe a baby monitor, but I know how nerve racking it can be:)
I would just remove it. We didn't have a bumper for our son (now 2) and he only got his leg caught twice - when he was around 10 months. If you look on the packaging or tag of the bumper (or set if you got it as a crib set) it will say that bumpers aren't suppose to be in the crib when the baby is! Not sure why they even sell them in the first place if you can't use them with the baby!!! The mesh ones are different of course, those are safe for use with the baby in the crib so I would just remove the fluffy one for now and install the breathable one when you get it :)
I can't understand why people use bumpers in the first place? Take it out.
I don't even know if they make them anymore but a friend loaned me a portable sleep swing that is more like a hanging bassinett because my apt was too small for anything else. I liked it because my son was the same way but in the swing I could strap him in around the legs and waist and didn't have to worry he would roll over or squish against the side although you could tell from his position he would try to. He's 4 now and still sleeps in the corner of the bed where it meets the 2 walls.
Congrats on being a new mom and starting the long road of worrying about all sorts of new things.
According to the CPSC 97 children have died in crib accidents from 2000-2006, none involved suffocating in a crib bumper. An old, dilapidated crib caused the majority of the deaths.
Babies love, love to have their heads up against something solid. It's all they've known.
I had bumpers for both my kids, they did fine, as apparently all the other kids out there. They too bumped their heads up against the bumper to help them feel more secure. HTH!
PLEASE educate yourself about SIDS. Crib bumpers are a bigtime no-no. So are loose blankets. Infants should not have anything in their cribs at all, no matter how cute they look with his nursery decor. I wish those bumpers came with Sudden Infant Death Syndrome warnings on them but unfortunately they don't and people continue to put those dangerous items on their Baby Shower Registries. As for blankets, buy some "Sleep Sacks" at Babies-R-Us and use those instead until he is strong enough to lift his own head and roll over by himself.
It is not recommended that there be anything in the crib besides the sheet, and a light recieving like blanket to cover your baby. It is recommended that you have them wear a sleeper to bed if your worried about keeping them warm. This concerned me as well but because of the risk of suffocation and SIDS no thick blankets, quilts or stuffed animals should be in the crib with them. I would place my baby in a sleeper and a hat because they lose most of their heat from the head. He'll probably still end up on the side of the crib, but he'll be safe:)
I really like my breathable bumper. If you are worried about the fluffiness of the one you have, I would remove it. The worst that will happen is one of his arms or legs will get "caught". he'll wake you up to remove it. If you can't sleep and are worried about the current bumper, I'd remove it until the breathable comes in. Good luck.
I wouldn't worry about him being up close to the bumper unless he has asthma or some medical issue.
My mother-in-law got us a breathable bumper for my son and I hate it. It's not at all thick and because he, also scoots around and up to the edges, his poor little head is mushed against the crib. The padding is VERY thin in those bumpers.
Babies move around - it's a fact of life. But if you've checked on him and he has no medical issues, then I think you're just going to have to take a deep breath and (try to)not worry.
I have 3 kids 9, 3 and 6 months. I still check on all of them - I think that's a Mom thing.
If you think you'll feel better with the other bumper, give it a try. But if you dodn't like it then use the bumper you have.
My son did that too. I took the bumper off. He would occasionally get and arm or leg stuck in the slats but he always woke us up to remove it. Besides, I thought bumpers weren't supposed to be on cribs until they are able to roll away from them. I might be wrong on that, but it is what I was told. Goodluck!
