Hello Moms- Okay, I read the book "Baby Whisperer" and took it's advice on the "dream feed" for the baby right before I go to bed while my little he is asleep. His previous feeding would be at 8:30pm and sleep from then until 11pm when I give him the dream feed. Sometimes if I'm getting ready for bed at this time and haven't given it to him yet, he will wake up and cry for hit until I give it to him. He gets between 28-32 oz of formula plus 5-10 oz of baby formula a day. It worked like a dream for months but he's almost 8 months now and has quit sleeping through the night. Has anyone tried this method from the book and if so, when did you cease giving the "dream feed"? thank you for your help moms!

i don't remember exactly when, but i think around 7 months, my son started waking up after only sleeping a few hours. it was driving us crazy, because he was sleeping 7-8 hours consistently. after talking to the pediatrician, we decided that if our son didn't sleep at least 5 hours, we weren't going to feed him. we'd comfort him while he lay in his crib, but we didn't feed him, which we had been doing.

only 3 nights of this, and he stopped waking up after 2-3 hours. he started sleeping through the night again.

I have a almost 5 month old and I stopped the dream feed at 3 months and she sleeps from 8:00-7:00.

I used this book as well with my first (now almost two) and now loosly practice the same principals with my 2nd. I actually focused on the tanking before the dream feed which made it very difficult to get the baby to wake enough even to dream feed.
You said you give 28-32oz of FORMULA plus 5-10oz Formula - did you mean breast milk/formula? I also combine Breastfeeding with formula feeding both for my first and now my second. I always give the formula in the evening beginning 7pm. It takes my son about an hour to drink 8 oz and by the time I get him to belch enough to put him down I breast feed him one more time and put him down. I don't even bother with the dream feed after the first few weeks as I'm now confident he's eating enough durring the day (son is now 12 weeks and sleeping though the night for a couple weeks now).
If you feel as though you've created a habit of him waking to eat because you don't get to him first. Refer to her section about breaking the habit of night feeding. It involves disrupting his sleep patern before he actually wakes up and can take a few days to complete. Feel free to write to me directly if you want.
Best wishes

I loaned my book out, but I seem to recall stopping the dream feed around 8 months once the solids were established. You don't mention if you've started him on solids yet. Unfortunately there are times that you need to alter a great routine because your baby outgrows it and it no longer works. I think eliminating the dream feed involved gradually doing it earlier? Both of my kids (now almost 5 and 3 1/2) had brief sleep issues around this adjustment time, but quickly got back into a good sleep routine. I thought there was info in the book on when and how to stop the dream feed.
Hope that helps!
