My 15 year old son and I have been back to school shopping. We went last night and he picked out all sorts of clothes at the mall. As usual, we visited Walmart to pickup school supplies and also to get the normal sock/undies. When we were in the mens underwear department, I was a little taken back when my son decided to pick out two four packs of bikini briefs........he normally has just worn boxer briefs and briefs but said he wanted to try something different..........Is it strange for my son to wear bikiini briefs? No one in my family has ever worn them before.........my other son just wears boxer briefs and briefs. ....am I thinking to hard about this? .do you have sons that wear that kind of undies? what do they wear?

What can I do next?

My son is 14 and likes the cotton boxers. He WAS wearing boxer briefs, but decided he wanted to go with plain boxers.

I don't think I would read anything into it. Maybe he is proud of his .... parts... and thinks it would feel sexy to have that kind of underwear. I mean... at 15 aren't their hormones supposed to be RAGING?

He may wear them a few times and decide he doesn't like them. The end.

Don't worry about this.
PS. What I normally do about a "change" in their styles like this, is to buy ONE package so they can "see if they like them" first. If so, I don't mind buying more. But sometimes a new style isn't all they thought it would be cracked up to be. Ya know?

ROFL... This is SO common with teen boys.

99% of the time...It's what their friends wear. Be that boxers or briefs or whatever. It's partly (in whatever the trend is) generational... Aka not what their dad wears.

It's also 50/50 on whether or not they stick with them. If its a big trend, and your son is in sports, he'll probably stick with whatever is 'cool' until graduation. Then switch to whatever he likes and swear up and down he's always worn them. (Sorry, brothers and cousins).

Last gen did the combo (boxer briefs), before them it was boxers, before that tightywhities. Right now, it's the 'bikini brief' that's hot. Because it makes you 'look bigger'. Not that men care about size at all :p

It's only underwear. I suggest you're over thinking this.

When I was 13 I babysat most of the summer and was expected to use my earnings for my back-to-school clothing and school supplies. No one approved or disapproved of my choices, though my Dad did make a few comments about one of my favorite mini-dresses, "Is that a shirt? Did you forget to put on your skirt or pants?" But he never said he didn't like it or disapproved, bless his heart.

My grandson will turn 14 in October, his choice of underwear is changing, too. He used to love boxers, now it's briefs with sayings, he loves the ones he received as an 8th grade graduation gift that say "Kiss My Class" across the behind, lol!

I think it's like your son said, he just wants to try something different. He may decide he likes them, or ask in a few weeks for some new briefs. Allow him to be an individual, he's learning to make his own choices, he's growing up ツ

Doesn't sound strange to me.
Every generation has their own preference and style when it comes to underwear, especially as they enter adulthood.
I'm sure you wouldn't want to wear your grandmother's bloomers, lol!

I wouldn't worry about them. He's not wanting to wear anything inappropriate and maybe it's as simple as that - he wants to try something new. My SS went from briefs to boxers to boxer briefs. I wouldn't sweat it. Either he'll like them or not and you'll buy more or you won't. It might also have to do with the trend of skinnier jeans, even for guys.

I agree that if a kid wants to try something new, I usually buy one pack first and see how that goes. Then keep buying if it's something they like.

I thought I was going to read a question about going back to school and now I'm reading about some teenage boy and his underwear. I suggest taking the class Question Titles 101.

Yep! Thinking too hard, buy the bikinis it will be just fine...maybe he saw all of the Olympic Swimmers & thought, 'hey, that looks cool & they seem to be comfy' or perhaps he just decided he didn't want to, 'hang it loose' or was tired of the, 'tidy whities'...whatever his reasoning, it's his package & he should be able @ 15 to dress it however he chooses.

FYI have 2 boyz here, one in boxers & one in boxer briefs & my DH wears bikinis.

He wants to try something and see what it feels like or what the big deal is. Maybe he wants less elastic around his waist. Be happy he told you about it. I'm surprised he lets you shop with him - most teens wouldn't! So be glad you have that kind of relationship, and just check his cell phone now and then to be sure he's not sending pictures of himself to anyone! Don't accuse him, just verify.
