Bad Day! Whats One of Your Bad Days?

I had one of those days that just makes you want to pull your hair out. My 2 year old colored herself with a blue marker right before we were suppose to head out for a dentist appointment. We were late to the appointment and when we finally got there my daughter had leaked and had pooh and pee running down her legs. I forgot to refill the wipes so I had only 4 wipes to clean it all up. I then took my 2 year old in with no pants on and visible blue marker all down her legs. After that my daughter spent the rest of the day crying and screaming while I tried to get her a new outfit in Target and get some other errands done. At lunch she threw her applesauce on my shoes and then I got a flat tire. Now im about to clean crayon out of the carpet! At the end of today I can't help but laugh. As caotic as it all was, its just funny. And there was probably a whole lot worse that could have happened.
So I thought id open this up to anyone who wants to tell about one of your bad days as a mommy where nothing seemed to go right but now that you look back on it, you can laugh about it. And what do you do to unwind at the end of a bad day?

What can I do next?

You know, getting to the stage of life that I'm in (I'm 44 and my kids are 12 and 16), it's all about perspective. I'm so far past the tantrums and diaper leaks, and have the experience of seeing these things as minor. Yesterday was the wake for a girl in my daughter's grade in high school, who took her own life. Taking my daughter to that wake was right up there with worst days in parenting.

Yesterday was pretty bad. My son had football camp early yesterday morning but when we got there I found out that even though I had mailed it weeks earlier they didnt have his registration. Thankfully, they let him go anyway but after spending a couple hours on the phone I found out my daughters softball and volleyball camp registration had not been received either. About this time my youngest son started crying and completely overreacting about something in his eye( he had a bad experience with a rock in his ear last year). My daughter then starts vomitting 2 min before I had to go back to pick up my older son from football camp.I come home to milk that spilled all over the floor because something or someone had punctured a hole in it earlier and then left it out to spill. My husband came home from work early because he thought he had a kidney stone. During all of this I forgot to get anything out for dinner and my son had his first football practice for the year that night, but his cleats that he told me the week before fit him were now too small and he cant wear them and I had to be at a booster club meeting( thank goodness for frozen lasagna). Then finally around 1am my hubby decided he was in enough pain that he wanted to go to the emergency room but then when we got there decided he would wait until his Dr. appt today. I came home and cried for a good hour just because I was super stressed. Thankfully, today has been much calmer.

hhhhhmmmmm.....

There are two days that I can't laugh about....and one I can..

First bad one - the day I knew my first marriage was over. I felt like a failure.

Second - and worst - the day I lost Alexis Catherine...most lowest point in my life...I felt like I couldn't breathe, I felt like jumping off a roof...the only thing that kept me going were my two boys that kept loving me when I was bawling my eyes out..

The day that I can look back on and say WOW!! That was a roller coaster ride!!! The day we had a blow out in my mom and dad's motor home (40 footer with a tow car - so what - 75 feet?) in the middle lane of traffic...my dad kept control of the motor home (had I been driving - we probably would've flipped) and only had us at a 45 degree angle to the road!! My son ONLY bumped his head...nothing exploded...no one was hurt...when it was all done - we said THAT was a ride!!! :)

when i read your title i immediately thought of my actual worse day of my life which was the day of my son's brain injury...however that is a story for a different post

but as far as light hearted bad days go it was probably 2 summers ago almost any day for 2months straight I was Pregnant & my son is disabled & he started on a laxative, well they called it in to the pharmacy & i picked it up...i administered it, the dose as per instructions on bottle...2 hours later there was explosive diarrhea all over his bed & him (of course he didnt know any better so he kept putting his hands in his mouth! gag!!)...during that same time he had started a new seizure med which was making him puke everywhere so there was alternating explosive diarrhea (& he's 5yrs old so its not like a baby its like an adult!) & puke everywhere!! i couldnt keep the bed or floor clean! then 2 days later i get a voice mail from the doctors office that says " do not administer a whole dose of the laxative, give 1/4 of a dose then increase as needed...may cause explosive diarrhea!" thanks! a little too late for that!! lol

so needless to say since I was about 7 months pregnant I could hardly lift him into the tub every time (hubs was at work) plus I had to stop & puke every few seconds from the smells of his poop & puke! it was horrible! i thought it was a really bad dream! it seriously took 2 months to get the right dosage of laxative figured out & then 3 seizures meds later to get one that didnt make him puke! i lost 10 lbs in 2 months! bc I couldnt keep anything down! lol now I laugh but it still makes me feel kinda queasy!

Wow...I suppose one of the yuckiest day ever was when my daughter and a little boy in the daycare both came down with diarrhea in the same day. They took turns having poo running down their legs so that I had to put them in the big claw bath tub each time. They started this right before a parent came to interview for daycare. This was PRE- Cell phone days. So I couldn't cancel. I had to hold this interview in the bathroom!

That was 23+ years ago and today that mom is my best friend :) She told me she started with me because she was impressed that I kept my cool.

Ugh! Hands down the time I missed a connecting flight and got stuck overnight with an 11 month old. The airline offered to put us up "overnight" (it was midnight already) then they took forever to get our suitcase. When we got to the hotel they gave us the wrong room key - twice! By now it was almost 4 am. Laid down with my son and he started the hungry cry. Breast milk was not enough to satisfy him, had to get up and get baby food and puffs. Slept for about half an hour before having to be up again to get back to the airport for a 6 am flight.

Well hang in there tomorrow will be a better day. Yes I have had some horrible days..but it helps me relish the good days.
My worst day was when my middle child hurt his head and we had to go to the hospital. The blood was squirting everywhere. It was scary plus I had my two other kids with me. Ugh. It was not an experience I would want to relive.
I am sending you good thoughts.

The day I was downsized two months before I had our son wasn't too much fun but worked out better than anyone could have imagined.

Usually a good cry and a shower helps wash all the 'ick' away.

Someday this will be funny.

About a month before my son was born, I stopped at the drive-thru pharmacy to pick up a prescription, probably vitamins, after a tiring day at work. When I tried to start the car again, it wouldn't. You'd think people would stop to help a pregnant lady, but no they just drove around me and acted annoyed. I went inside the pharmacy to use the phone to call my husband(I didn't have a cell phone). He was working across the street, but instead of leaving work to help me he said call the car warranty company. After going back outside to find the warranty info in the car, I went back in to call them. So they wanted to know the mileage on the car. I had no clue what it was(and couldn't look it up because- duh- the car wouldn't start) so the customer service guy suggested a mileage number. I said I wasn't sure, and he said too bad, that meant it was out of warranty and they couldn't help. Meanwhile, my credit card had been denied at the pharmacy, I think I tried a 2nd card and it was denied too, and I was getting confused by talking on the phone and to the store clerks at the same time.
In the end, everything turned out OK. Eventually my husband got out of work, came over and jumpstarted the car for me, yelled at the car warranty people on the phone, I got my prescription and the pharmacy got their credit card machine fixed. But to this day I avoid drive throughs.
