There's a fantastic website, allmyfaves.com that has free online games at:
http://games.allmyfaves.com

There's also a tab at the top for 'kids' which brings you to:
http://kids.allmyfaves.com/
and there's a row of free online games.
I haven't tried the children's ones yet, but the entire site has been a great reference for me.

pbskids.org or noggin.com are good. Also, starfall.com is a great website that my three year old loves. It is for all different age levels. My older son actually used it in school when he was in kindergarten. It helps them with their letters and also helps kids learning to read and kids that are already reading.

fisherprice internet launchpad is great. it allows them to play on several different web pages w/o having access to the rest of your computer. they don't sell it in stores anymore in less you are lucky enough to find it in clearance but can be bought on ebay for not too much. The keys can be reprogrammed to go to whatever site you like if you are computer savy. I would get the disney one if your not though because the site the fisherprice dog goes to changed all the other ones work though.

He is too young! Let him just pretend for now. Find an old mouse, cut the cord and give him a mouse pad of his own so he can "use it " without harm to your real computer. We did this with an old key board too. Make a "monitor" out of a cardboard box, tape pictures of interest on it and set it up near by your computer. My kids would type away with their "computers", while I worked on mine. You can also purchase a toy laptop with a mouse that makes sounds. Wait until he is 3 or 4 to introduce access to real computers. Don't rush it!

My now 6 year old still loves PBSkidssprout online, Noggin.com, and many more online games and activities. It beats going out and spending a ton of money on games you are not sure your son will like or use. :) Happy playing.

When my daughter was almost two, I bought some computer software from Reader Rabbit that was great. There are different ones available I believe, the one I purchased had great games (even I loved to play). There is shape recognition, music games, coloring games etc, the graphics are great and the characters are cute. My daughter is nine now, and she still remembers its. They may have updated the software at this point, but if you can find it, its probably worth trying.

hi R.,
I've had great success with the Pbskids.org -- but if your son is into Barney or Thomas the Tank, you can acces those websites & there's plenty to keep him busy even without much use of the mouse. Or, you can go to Toys r us & get the Thomas computer, is portable, has its own mouse & is very instructional for less than $30. my son loves this.
good luck!

Hi, R.!

I just found the most wonderful program called "GIGGLES Computer Funtime for Baby" for children 6-36 months old. I've added it to my BRAIN-athon Emporium website.

It is designed so that your toddler can tap away at the keys and not hurt any files on your computer. The escape and windows keys are defunct, so he can't access your desktop or your start button and change or delete any of your files. There is also a bonus screensaver cd that interacts with your child, instead of restoring your desktop like most screen savers. The mouse does things, too. Plus they LEARN!

There are 4 titles - My Animal Friends, ABC's & 123's, Nursery Rhymes, and Shapes. Here's a direct link - http://brainathonemporium.com/order/index.php?main_page=i... There's a demo video there.

I'm right in East Hartford, too, so you won't have to pay for shipping.

HTH!

Hi R.,

My kids (even the ten year old) love Tux Paint, an open-source free program you can download for free. (Here is the link: http://www.tuxpaint.org/download/ .) It's a graphic arts program designer for little ones, similar to but waaaay better than the old "Paint" program that comes standard on PCs. My kids and my friends' kids absolutely love it and the pictures they make are phenomenal at times. Make sure when you download the basic program you download the stamps package too (you'll see what I'm talking about).

My daughter loves the nick jr and pbs websites. All her favorite shows with easy to play games. We also open MS Word and Paint for her and let her type away.

save your money and go to pbskids.org I'm sure playhouse disney and nick jr probably have similar types of things but my 2 year old is a caillou junkie so we only go to pbs.
