Hi All!

Was thinking about my son's daily activities and time schedule and wondering what other toddlers his age are like. I don't have any friends with children and have nothing to 'compare' him too.

My little one is bundle of constant energy while awake. He won't play with any of his toys by himself, only if we sit and play with him. If we are up and doing something not involving him, he would rather be pounding on that thing. His favorite is the computer... no matter how many times we tell him 'no' etc! Mommy, Mommy, Mommy.... my head hurts. He is very interactive and catches onto things quickly.

I try to get him into bed by 8:30 at the latest, but sometimes it will be as late as 9:30. He is up bright and early between 6-7 and I cannot get him to sleep past that time. Do you bring your kids into bed with you? I've been doing that since he was nursing. (I nursed for 14 months). However these days he won't go back to sleep if I bring into bed, he just wants to play. He's generally a good napper (for me and daycare).

Guess I don't have a specific question, just how active is your toddler, what is his schedule? What have your biggest challenges been? Do you still give them a bottle?

My 27 month son is super active. I have found that he likes to be on-the-go just like me so we generally go somewhere daily. In a few months your child's imagination will kick in and he'll have more independent play. Here's my breakdown:

He's been going to a montessori school since 20 months
He goes to Little Gym one day a week (great for kids with energy!)
On days with nice weather I take him to a park or to the zoo...bad weather days we may go to the children's museum
He sleeps from 7-7 and takes a 2 hr nap a day
We don't bring him to bed with us because we really wanted to foster independent sleeping & wanted to keep our bed generally as our marriage bed (each parents' choice)
He's on a sippy cup and also drinks from a regular cup when seated at the kitchen table. Montessori teaches "sit and sip" which has works great - just say it and he knows where to go.

Good luck! Maybe you could get plugged in to a local mom's group or join a Little Gym?

Hi,

I have a son thats going to be 18mths on the 20th of this month and his schedule is really out of control rite now...hes usually in bed by 10, he doesnt nap much during the day & he recently started sleepin with the husband and I on our bed even though we recently bought him his own toddler bed! We also finally got him off the bottle because his pediatrician asked us to and he is drinkin from a sippy cup...he loves it and he actually cant tell the difference from his bottle and cup! I think our biggest challenge right now is that if we dont give him all the attention he gets really upset and start turnin of the tv, or he will go and start nocking things over! Hes a really active toddler!

My 20 month old is also very active and getting into everything! Very happy, very curious, LOVES cars and balls right now. Starting to learn the animals though he's known "dog" for a few months. Is in bed by 7pm and awake at 6am. Naps for 1-1/2 to 2 hours around noon. Hasn't had a bottle since he was 14 or 15 months old. Oh, and we don't bring him into bed with us because that disrupts our sleep too much. And he's finally starting to sleep through the night. (knock on wood)

At 19mos, my son was (and still is, at 2.5) Satan. LOL!
VERY busy and into everything. No fear, and on several occasions, unlocked our doors and let himself out of the house (until we installed locks at the tops of the doors!). That is still our biggest challenge. He knows NO fear and doesn't learn from getting hurt.
At the time, he tried jumping down the staris, off of our countertops, wandered off as I mentioned, etc... TROUBLE. Now, he is just sneakier. Every day is an exercise in vigilance to keep him safe.

No bottles at that age. Only sippies. He was in bed at 7:30 and up around 6 every day. That's still the case.
Never slept in our bed, only watches cartoons in there in the morning.

You little one sounds like a healthy toddler!
Mine is now almost 24 months (OMG my baby is almost 2!). But the last several months of non-stop activity have had the same general pattern: NON STOP!
She is up btwn 6-7 and there is no getting back in bed. She is a good napper. But much like yours she wants to be doing what everyone else is doing. Thankfully she has big sister to entertain her in the afternoons. But this little monkey is swinging from the vines from the time she opens her eyes until the time we put her in bed.

Mine is a happy healthy handful. Sounds like yours is too!
