Best Hospital in NYC for Giving Birth

I gave birth to all my three children at Columbia Presbyterian, and each one was a very good experience. I'd recommend it! Good luck!

I agree with Jessica W that it is hard to have a drug free birth in NYC. Surprisingly. However, I did it with little problem at Mt Siani. My Dr was an associate of the Hospital and was supportive of a natural birth as was the nursing staff there. Also very pro-breastfeeding which is helpful since those first few days are critical.
They have a whole building dedicated to maternity. Each LDPR room is private with a bathroom, some have showers. The pediatrician staff is lovely as well. And I never felt that the nursery staff was overwhelmed. I never saw more than 8 or 9 babies in the nursery at any time.
I had two babies at Mt Sinai and loved both experiences. But it is a great hospital even if you want a traditional epidural, they have anethesiologist 24 hours a day.

I gave birth at Columbia Presbyterian, which is also Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital. My father was an OB there and had connections, but sadly I didn't have such a great experience. The labor room experience was excellent, due largely to the nurse on staff that night, but when I first arrived I waited almost an hour with no help or attention at all. It was already known that my water broke. You should know that there is a sign in the bathroom stating that it is not recommended that you shower or drink the water in the bathroom. Not sure if it's b/c of the old pipes, but I took one anyway after 2 days after a C-section anyway. I didn't have such a great experience overall, though not sure if it's because I needed more attention or not. This was also with my father's connections. Good luck in your search.

I gave birth to both of my kids at Mt. Sinai and loved it. The staff was amazing and supportive. I was pretty lucky to not have anyone sharing my room when I had my son without the expense of a private room. The nursing staff was great. A lot of it is your OB's practice that makes for a good birthing experience.

St. Luke's Roosevelt on W.58th street was awesome. It is also one of the top 10 birthing hospitals in the nation. They have a floor dedicated to natural birth and rooms big enough for family members to be presnt as well as another floor for non-natural, meaning epidurals etc. They were all phenomenal and it's a teaching school so you see alot of residents in the area they are so enthusiastic and many of the residents were women, which made me happy how many women truly are atrracted to the medical field specifically to help their fellow woman. If you want to have a natural birth, you should go to Roosevelt Hospital. Any of the other hospitals will make it incredibly difficult to have a drug free, sober birth for you and your baby.

I looooved my experience at Columbia but part of it is also the practice you use.

I gave birth in Lenox and had a very good experience with the staff following my birth plan, the classes they provided after birth were very informative and helpful and they were able to accommodate me in the private room for the 2nd night.

I looooooooved the Cornell hospital on 69th and York. The full name is New York Presbyterian Hospital - Weill Cornell. Every birthing room is a huge suite, with a separate area for the baby and the pediatrician for the first couple of minutes when the baby is born, so it's all warm and ready for him/her. The big room is important not just while you are in non-active labor, but also, in case th emonitors tell doctors to rush in -- there is space for all the docs and nurses! And a comfy chair for your husband. Great staff, amazing nurses, docs, etc... Could not recommend it highly enough. It was a pleasurable experience and they made a world of difference for us (and four of my friends who've all had their babies there).

i gave birth at lenox hill but the hospital is secondary to your MD. if you love MD then see where he/she delivers. but he best are sinai, cornell, columbia, NYU

I gave birth to my daugher at New York Presbyterian Hospital - Weill Cornell on 68th & York Avenue. The birthing room is beautiful, staff is marvelous! They have great doctors. I had to have emergency c-section because they weren't getting a good reading from the fetal monitor. The staff rolled me into the OR quickly and when my daughter was born she had 2 pediatricians waiting for her to make sure she was ok. Thank goodness she was fine...but it was extemely comforting to have 2 pediatricians waiting for her. I truly love the hospital and recommend it to everyone. Three of my gilfriends had their babies there also and agree....NYP-Weill Cornell is the best. Good luck.

I had a wonderful birth experience at St. Lukes Roosevelt in their birth center. I had a natural birth and the room that I gave birth in was the room where my baby, partner and I spent the night together. The baby never left my side and I felt well cared for.
