Hi!I am new to Columbus and I am wondering what is considered the best hospital in the area? I will be living in Pataskala but don't mind going 30 or 40 minutes to a well respected hospital.

Thank you!

So What Happened?

Thank you for all the responses! I will be taking tours of the MT Carmel and Riverside Hospital when I arrive in December. Making a change in location and Doctors this late in the pregnancy has been stressful and I appreciate the advice and insight. ( making a change as my boyfriend is AirForce and we are currently living in Germany and his extension was denied and he is transferring to Ohio). Trying to do this from across the world to a place I don't know... :-( Anyway, thanks! I am about to post a note about finding an OB.

I know not the closest to you, but Riverside has always been my favorite. I had 4 kids there and just recently spent 9 days there with my elderly father.
I have been in a few other hospitals and it is not the same. But I have never been to Mount Carmel East.

Good Morning C...... In my opinion I think Mt. Carmel East is the best. I totally loved the staff and the room and I had my daughter there 19 mos ago.If I have another child I will definitely deliver at Mt. Carmel again.

I delivered both of my daughters via c-section at St. Ann's in Westerville. Once upon a time the "old" St. Ann's (many years ago) was strictly a maternity hospital. Anyway, I had great experiences both times and would go back again in a heartbeat.

On a side note, I had my first daughter when I was 40 and my second when I was 42! Welcome to the club!! :)

I don't know how much help I can be, but I'll give you my experiences. I gave birth to both of my kids at Riverside. The first was a much nicer experience, but I believe that it has to do with the drs, though I don't know for certain. With the first, I was with a private practice & had a very good experience. Everyone was attentive & very nice. With the second, I was going to the community center. The nurses at the hospital were still nice, but there was a different feeling. Yes, the dr. care was very different, but there was just a vibe or feeling I got with the nurses.
Then, my husband had to stay at Mt. Carmel East. Obviously, we didn't experience the maternity ward, but everyone was wonderful.
Find out what hospital your doctor has privileges at and be sure to take the tour. It's not always the best way to know how things will be (everyone is on their best behavior), but it can help.
Good luck & congratulations.

I prefer Riverside. We live close to Pataskala and I used Kingsdale Gynecological Associates in Upper Arlington. It truly depends on where your doctor is set up to practice out of though. I would use Riverside for all of my care - my grandfather and my mom both had open heart surgery there and went on to live a better life. I know that it is the surgeons/doctors but still - I've just always had a better peace of mind there. I hear good things about St. Ann's.

My side note: I had my first son at 40 and my second son at 42. I'm actually due in less than 3 weeks. I was told for 22 years that I would never have kids and God smiled on me and has blessed me with 2. I love being pregnant and am sad that this is my last pregnancy but I also love being a mom and can't wait to see how my 2 boys turn out!

Have you decided on a pediatrician yet?

I had one of my sons at St. Anns & one at Mt Carmel East by c-section. Both were really good experiences. The rooms are nicer at St. Anns & the labor & delivery was really nice & helpful. The after care at East was MUCH better...probably because there aren't as many people in maternity there. I also work at Riverside & have seen many births from the other side there & think they are great as well. I would say you probably can't go wrong with any of those 3.

Was very happy with both of our delivery experiences at Riverside (1 time with a Dr. and the other with a midwife.)

I had my daughter at Grant last year, before they opened their new maternity center, which I hear is beautiful. The nurses there were excellent - very supportive and really allowed me to be in control of my birthing plan. My OB, Andrew Bokor, was also great - he is located near Reynoldsburg, and delivers at Grant and Mt. Carmel East.

Hello C., Well I had my 4 children at Mount Carmel East Hospital. To say the least not a very good experience. I am now due any day with my 5th child and we are having her at home with midwives. We go to Choice in Worthington on North High Street!!! They are wonderful there and counldn't say anything bad about them. They always told me if we would have to go to the hospital for any reason we would go to Grant- it is Downtown. We live in Pataskala as well!!! Good luck to you.
