Delivered at Mt. Carmel East?

Hello All!

I am expecting baby #3 in June and my practitioner delivers at both St. Ann's and Mt. Carmel East. I've delivered at St. Ann's and had a great experience but have not experience with East. I'm not pleased that I won't know where I'm delivering until I go into labor and am considering changing practitioners because of this. Before I make that decision though, I'd like to know more about other people's experiences at East.

Thanks for your thoughts!

M., i have delivered two of mine there and had an incredible experience both times. I WAS hesitant because it had been 12 years in between but went with my instincts last Christmas and we were greatly pleased!

Hi M.,

I delivered my baby at Mt. Carmel East just this past August, and there were good points and bad points you should probably consider. On the upside, the maternity wing is brand new and very clean. My delivery room was private and very large - you could probably fit 20 people in there if you were so inclined. It's not a huge hospital, so my anesthesiologist arrived just minutes after I requested my epidural, so that was great! The delivery room nurses were great-really supportive and respectful of my wishes. The postpartum rooms are large, new and clean, with large windows in the rooms which was nice, TV with more than just 3 channels and it feels more like a hotel room than a hospital room. The postpartum nurses were really nice and answered all my questions. I felt really well taken care of most of the time. On the downside, the food is really bad (I'm not a picky eater, but some of it was inedible!) and the nurses, while very nice, are sometimes not responsive to requests until you ask a few times. And I still have not received the birth certificate that I filled out paperwork for at the hospital before I left!

As an aside, I was stuck in MCE for 3 weeks prior to giving birth on bedrest, so I got to really experience what it's like to be a patient there. I had some really fabulous nurses, and some really bad ones. Fortunately, the good ones outweighed the bad. One nurse even came up to postpartum to check on me when she found out I'd had my baby, even though she didn't work on that floor.

All in all, I think the level of your satisfaction with MCE will depend on what kind of patient you are. If you are relatively low maintenance and flexible, I think you will be happy with your experience there. If you are higher maintenance and are looking for lots of attention, you might be disappointed. But I wouldn't be concerned about them not doing everything they need to do to get that baby into the world safe and sound.

hope that helps!

Hi my name is S. and I have delivered 3 babies and my grandson was also delivered at Mt Carmel East. I have always had good experiences with them when it comes to the delivery ward . The nurses are very attentive and they seem to really care about making you comfortable. They answered every question and made sure I had all the information available if I had any concerns about anything. My daughter also delieverd my grandson there and she was very pleased with the care as well . I wish you the best on your delivery and I hope this information can help you in your decision. God bless

I delivered my daughter Morgan at East in October of 2005. I did have a good experience although my OB was hesitant to send me there for my second. I personally think it is just kind of luck of the draw as to which is best which days. I think it depends on the nurses you get and such. Now, I delivered my son at St. Anne's and had a good experience there as well. Unfortunately what made it a better experience for me was the fact that I up with someone I knew personally as my nurse. If you are comfortable with you OB, I wouldn't let this be the thing that makes you leave them, especially if you have been with them for a awhile and and are comfortable with them. I think that as long as you trust your OB that you could probably have a great birth at either hospital.

Hello, I thought that I would respond since I have had 4 children at Mount Carmel East. With each baby I had either a bad experience or a very bad nurse or postpartum nurse. Not to sat that you would but my next baby- I am considering having the baby at home- for a home birth and having a mid-wife. Is was just way too stressful on getting to the hospital and then be put into the testing room when I got there and then they were going to send me home with terrible labor pains. My water broke as I was getting ready to leave the testing room and I had my daughter not even an hour later!!! Imagine if I would have went home. I will not go thru that again. Anyway- If you do not mind me asking- Who is your OB/GYN? I would suggest- depending on how much you love your doctor- not delivering at East.- Try to deliver at St.Ann's or have a home birth with a Mid-Wife. They are wonderful at Choice which is located on North High Street, Columbus. They do home births as well as other options. Hope this helps.

A little about me- I am a stay at home mother of 4 children- ages 8,7,2 1/2, and almost 9 months, married to a wonderful husband.

In my opinion Mt. Carmel E is just as great as St. Ann's. They added a new maternity wing a few years back and it is really nice. You can actually go on their website and find out when to take a tour of the maternity wing to familiarize yourself w/everything. I had my son there and most of my friends delivered at Mt Carmel. Everyone of us had a positive experience. I loved it there. I had two nurses while in labor and during delivery and both nurses were great.
Many practitioners now actually have 2 hospitals that they deliver in. Before switching practitioners, check out Mt Carmel East. I think you will like it.

I delivereid my daughter there 17 years ago and loved the experience. Private room, great nursing staff, my family was with me, and a nice basket of goodies when you go home.

Hi-First of all, congratulations! I delivered both of my kids at Mount Carmel East, and both times were wonderful. My kids are now 8 and 5 1/2; since then they have upgraded their maternity floor and I have a friend who delivered both of her kids there. The new floor is amazing! Anyway, the nurses were all very kind and compassionate; especially with my first. I had no idea what I was doing! Seeing how this is your third, you'll pretty much know what to expect. Good luck to you!

I delivered my son at Mount Carmel East 18 months ago. They have redone their maternity wing, and it is really nice. The delivery rooms are private and quite spacious. We had a very good experience with both the doctors and nurses.

Early congratulations!
