so my daughter had her 1month checkup yesterday... at her last appointment 2 weeks ago shhe was 19 1/2inches and 7lbs (dont remember the head measurement) yesterday she was 20inches and 8.6lbs (doctor and i were both happy.. she had gained weight her last 2 appointments but apparently not as much as the doc wouldve liked to see.. this time she gained more thn expected) and her head measure i believe 37 -i could be wrong about that .. but anyway the doctor showed me where she is on the growth curve.. for height shes right at the 25% for weight shes right in between 25-50% but her head measurement is 75% .. the doctor wasnt concerened she said.. some babys just have big heads haha .. but like when i look at my daughter her head doesnt look overly big or anything.. obviously its not a concern to the doctor so im not worriedshe just said we weould have to watch and see what its at at her next couple appointments.. but how normal is this? anyone else have a bighead baby?

What can I do next?

Lol, my son had a big head too. His weight has always been around the 50%, and his height has always been around the 70%, but his head has always been around 95%. I don't notice it until I try to put a shirt on him and I have to struggle to get his head through the hole. Lol

I can't remember the stats, but my daughter always seemed to have a big head too...I remember buying clothes for her and either having to get things with buttons, or testing the stretchability of the collar to make sure I would actually be able to get it over her noggin!

They measured my son's head 3 times in the delivery room to make sure his brain wasn't swollen or his head wasn't filled with fluid or something. Nope, just a big head!

When he was around 2, my mother used to have to take his sweatshirts, cut a V type of flap in the neck and sew an additional piece of fabric into the V so the shirts would go over his head. Otherwise, we couldn't get a regular sweatshirt on him!!

Now he's a very handsome, tall young man. 6'3", size 13 shoes, and wears a large hat size, and his head looks like it fits with the rest of him.

My son has and is in the 99% of head circumference...in 100 kids there is only one whose head is bigger than my baby!

Our previous doctor in CO was not concerned...as even in utero the kids head was gigantic. Even after a cyst on his brain was detected at 17 weeks gestation. (it went away and no sign of it since)...

Moved to MO and new doctor monitored it for year as she had concerns. We kept telling her that it's nothing to be concerned about it's always been big. Needless to say she said ok...let's watch it for 6 months...then it was how about another 6 months."

Finally at his three year check up said ..."I'm in your camp, he just has a big head"...

If you looked at him you wouldn't know...and he's perfectly healthy.

My only advice is once she's a walking, running make sure she doesn't run/walk with her head down...my baby would fall all the time cause his head would roll him over.

ETA: yes shirts cause huge problems...the ones I can get over his head are huge on him. He wears a lot of button downs.

Both my girls have always had huge heads. They are also taller than average (~90%) but 50% or less weight-wise.

Some kiddos just have big heads. I'm going with the assumption (hope) that they have bigger brains as well. :-)

As others have said, it has caused some problems with neck holes. I try to stretch the neck hole a lot before helping them put their shirts on.

My brother had an unusually big head which looked a bit strange when he was a child but he grew into it. He looks fine now but he has complained about neck problems his whole life! So I was wondering if this may cause an additional strain on the neck. Talk to your pediatrician about that (just to be safe) Maybe some physical therapy to strengthen the neck can prevent any future issues.

My dd looked like a bobble head for many years, we seriously wondered if she would grow into her head lol

She did, but we still tease her a little about it.

much like Laurie, we ALL have big heads in this house, so does my dad and brother (who is wicked smart) I know all sorts of useless things and can play jepoardy.. we watch it at dinner to help the DDs USE their GIANT BRAINS! lol When I was making them headbands I would tell them to come here with their giant noggins.. we dont make an issue of it, other then store bought plastic headbands hurt them, just like they did me.. I would ask hubby if they hurt him.. but... yea.. he will just laugh at me.. or make the " you are insane" face.. :P

but to me I think I would be concerned if the head were small.. but love is love :)
