Just recently I changed birth controls from one pill to another and I was wondering how long I need to wait in between switching to avoid getting pregnant.My physician never gave me an answer and she was pretty much pushing me out the door. I just want to be safe. Also I was wondering if it is possible to get pregnant during the placebo phase of the pills. They told me I couldnt, and I really want to get someone else's opinion.
I've taken birth control pills for over 25 years. I've switched types of birth control pills and there was no need to "wait in between" to avoid becoming pregnant. The difference between pills is slight and the effect is the same. No need to wait. And no, you can't get pregnant during the week of the placebo pills.
you can not get pregnant on the placebo pills. those are usually the ones you take the week of your period. I would call the doctors office to ask but to be safe,I would use another form of birth control for one whole cycle of pills. Once you take them for a month then start your second pill pack you will be fine.
If you want to be on the safe side, wait until you take the entire first pack so that your body becomes accustomed to the new pill. It might be very close to the old formulation and it might be quite different. Unless you're a pharmacist or a doctor you may not know how similar or different they are. It might not be a chance you want to take (a friend of the family got pregnant during the first pack of the new pill, despite taking it daily and at the same time).
If you are on the pill regularly, your chances of getting pregnant are very low placebo pills or regular.
