Birthday Themed Snacks

Hi Moms! We're in charge of snacks for my daughter's Girl Scout meeting that is a few days after her birthday next month. I thought it would be fun to have a birthday themed snack, but I'm having trouble coming up with any ideas other than the standard (and boring) cupcakes. I'd rather not have anything too sweet because they have their snack pretty close to 7:30pm...don't wanna hype them all up on sugar that late in the evening :o) Any ideas? Or am I stuck with icing-less cupcakes?

What can I do next?

Hi,

I always thought that banana bread was a great treat but I'm old. I was also thinking that strawberry shortcake. You can mix strawberry yogurt with strawberries and cool whip and dish it into the little cake cups with a squirt of the canned whip on top.

I love fruit pizzas!!! If you have never had/made one they are super simple and so yummy... It is a sugar cookie crust, cream cheese/cool whip frosting and then cut up fruits on top... so delicious and kind of healthy I guess. Good luck!

I know that I have done Muffins instead. I have done this at his school since they no longer let them bring cupcakes in and it has gone over really well.

Fondue is always fun. Melted chocolate, strawberries, bananas, pound cake, etc on skewers. Doesn't solve your sugar problem but it's really good. :)

Have fun! Don't give in to cupcakes!

What about fruit-kabobs that are arranged to spell your daughters name or Happy Birthday? Or English muffin pizzas - you could bring a toaster oven and let them put in their own toppings before warming them up. Good Luck!

An easy treat that is better than cupcakes would be rice-krispie treats. You can use a cookie cutter to cut them into the shape of her age, her initial, whatever. At least not so much sugar as cupcakes, and a bit unusual :)

I work in a preschool, and due to allergies, we do not allow cupcakes to be brought in. An idea that I give families is a fruit salad, you can have whipped cream on top, and of course a cherry. It's a big hit with my 3 and 4 year olds.
Good luck!

Hi there R.

Got plenty of birthday themed snacks.

For savoury - mini pizzas - get some pita bread, place pizza sauce and your choice of toppings.

Chips/vegetables and dips. Set up an assortment of things on a plate with crackers, cheese, (meat optional) and an assortment of vegetables (steamed first).

Next one is an all time aussie favourite - fairy bread. Get some bread, spread margarine to the end and place sprinkles on the top evenly. You can use cookie cutters to make the shape of the bread different.

Even adults love this one!

Party pies/samosas/spring rolls and sausage rolls with your choice of sauces.

Fruit platter.

Hope this helps!
