Hello,

My friend and I booked a trip for us and our kids and she seemed to not have realized that she would need a passport for her son. I know. So, our trip is in less than 2 weeks and we are still waiting for the birth certificate to come in the mail. (she misplaced the original) perfect timing. IS THERRRE ANNNNNYTHING we can do if it doesn't come in the mail in time to send out for a RUSH on a passport? Do we have ANY options??? Thank you in advance.

What can I do next?

Hi, Once you have the birth certificate (which by the way you can get by walking in to any court house in the county where the child was born), you should be able to walk into the Federal building and stand in line for your passport if you don't have time to send it in. I know you could do that post 9-11, but I'm not sure if they've changed that. Make sure all your documents are in order. No matter what, you must have a notarized letter from the dad expressing his consent and agreement that your child get a passport, and show proof of date of travel. Double check on the governments website for passports. Good Luck, I know how nerve wrecking it can be.

Not sure if they can do a rush for kids, but call Aim Mail Center and ask. I was just at the one in Laguna Woods (on El Toro Rd) I think the number is ###-###-####. I do know that if you are applying for a child both parents as well as the child need to be there and if both parents can't there is something about a notarized stmt needed?? Hope you get it quick.

I did a walk-in to pick up a certified copy of my son's birth certificate a few months ago. I'm not sure how other county clerk's/registrar's offices are, but the one I went to required cash in the EXACT AMOUNT (they would not issue change) or personal check.

From the time I applied for the passport for my son, it took 1 1/2 weeks to receive it in the mail. That was "regular delivery" (not rush). We got it at the Corona Public Library. But then again, that was a few months ago, and it was probably not as busy as this time of year to process. So, I would suggest you do the rush delivery!

And when applying for the passport, BOTH parents need to be there WITH the child. Otherwise, you will need a notarized statement/form. Good luck! :)
