My twins are starting to get out of their highchairs and every now and then, standing up. They are 16 months old. Too soon to move to a booster chair, strapped in, at the table?

What can I do next?

I don't think it's too soon, a booster chair is basically a highchair but it's at the table instead of standing alone. I think it would be a good idea.

I agree. I would have done it earlier myself had the booster seat actually fit under my table. When we'd go to restaurants our daughter behaved much better in a booster seat rather than a high chair. Now that she's taller I can use a phone book. She loves our new routine of washing our hands in the "big girl" sink rather than me washing her up while sitting in her high chair. We go straight from the sink to her "big girl" chair at the table. Now if I sit in the chair with her phone book she gets upset at me. I've also noticed that since we've been doing more "big girl" things rather than "baby" things she begun to start doing more on her own. We've had more first time events in the last couple of days than we've had in a while. It's exciting how much a little thing can empower them.

I don't think it's too soon at all. We have the Fisher Price Healthy Booster: http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?e=product&pid=274... I found it at Babies R Us for $25. We use it at home and when we go out, with and without the tray. It has a lap belt, and straps that secure it to the chair. I've never found a chair that it couldn't be strapped to. It's also extremely easy to wash. It can adjust to different heights too.

good luck! mine is 21 months and we thought we'd try the booster seat at IHOP this morning - bad idea! he would NOT sit still and i worried he was going to fall. i think it depends on the kiddo though. if they're strapped in (and they strap to the chair too i think) it ought to be good. my son hasn't figured out how to unhook the straps on ours, so highchair it is for us!
