Boys Monthy Haircuts.

I have 2 girls, but my husband cuts his own. Clippers are really affordable ($30-$40 gets you 5-6 years worth of hair cuts) and it is super easy to do. Start with a buzz cut and then you can play around with different stuff as the weather gets cold (that way, he is wearing hats more if he has a bad cut, and it grows out quick any way)

I have been cutting my daughters' hair since they were born - I also cut my own hair (started in college when I was to broke to afford to pay for it). I have had some bad cuts, but then I have had stylists give me bad cuts too. Plus if you learn now while you kiddo is young, he will think it is normal by the time he is a teen and cares about these things.

I get my almost-4YO son's hair buzzed really short, so I can make his hair cuts go out to 6 weeks! LOL But I've been toying with the idea of getting clippers myself... although once I do that he'll start requesting specific hair cuts that I won't be able to do! HA!

You're right--it's pretty much a monthly occurrence, especially with a short or buzz cut.
My son like his hair longer now and I hate that "newly shorn" look, so it's still a "trim" every month.
When he had it short and spiked, we used a paste to spike it up on top.

My youngest goes to SportClips with Dad every 4 weeks. It's cheap and they do a good job. My oldest is almost 14, and is very picky about his hair. Both boys have extremely thick, fairly curly hair. My oldest goes to the expensive Aveda salon that I go to. It's pricey, but the stylist does a great job with his hair, and he has difficult hair. I take him about every 5 weeks.

I'm a hairstylist, so I can do my own little maintenance upkeeps in between when I do the full on haircut. But about once a month sounds about right.

I bought a pair of Wahl clippers and learned to do it myself. It's really not difficult...and worth the cost of those clippers in the long run!

When my boys were younger, their father took them once a month to the barber shop. Boys' day out. They all got haircuts then usually stopped for lunch. Male bonding, you know. tehehe

I cut my husband's every 2 weeks, my oldest son's every 3-4 weeks and my youngest gets his cut when he lets me. I am not a hairstylist, but hated paying out and finding time to get their hair cut so often.

When my son was 2 yrs old I got my own clippers and learned how to give him a buzz cut.
It looked so comfortable (it was a really hot summer) my husband decided he wanted one, too.
I've been buzzing their hair every month or two for over 10 years now.
I dump the cut hair into the garden and dig it in.

I just bought a pair of clippers from Kmart - a bunch of comb attachments come with set, color-coded to correspond with the length you want - and I was shocked how easy it was to do. You can make it shorter on the sides and longer on the top, depending on the comb you choose. Also, my son didn't cry during the cut for once!

The clipper set was $24 and I usually spend around $18 to have the barber do my son's hair, so this was definitely worth it.

Luckily for us my MIL owns a salon, whenever our son needs a cut, we go in and get one. It seems to be every 3-4 weeks.

We get into disagreements about this all the time. I like both my boys to have their hair a bit longer on top with nice clean edges all the way around. My husband thinks I let them wear their hair too long but when he gets their hair cut omg..I feel like they've been butchered. They both have beautiful thick hair and to see it so short that you can practically see their scalp is too short. LOL! My boys need cuts about every 4-5 weeks.
