Breast Milk

I left my Friday's pumped milk in my refrigerator in the office over the weekend. How long does it last? Should I throw it out? Or is it still good?

What can I do next?

Fresh (unfrozen) pumped milk will last 8 days if refrigerated. It's definitely still good. I routinely did this when I was pumping for my son (would save Friday's milk to use on Monday since we exclusively breastfed over the weekends). Good for you for breastfeeding!

I generally find it lasts three days. If you smell it, you'll know. However, always better to be safe than sorry- If you're questioning it, I'd dump it. Kudos for being a pumping working mom!

recommendations range from 3-5 days. You could bring it home and taste it/smell it.

Medela and La Leche both say 7 days. Don't throw it out!!! You worked hard for that milk.

Here's a quick note on milk storage times:
8 hours at room temp
7 days in the fridge (don't put it on the door)
3-4 months in freezer in combo fridge/freezer
6-12 months in deep freezer depending on type and temp

If it was left in the fridge and not the freezer, you should throw it out. I am almost positive but I can look in my training manual if you want me to and be sure.

I read that you can keep breast milk anywhere from 3-8 days in the refrigerator. I would think it would probably be okay, but maybe toss it just in case, not worth your little one getting sick!

I believe that breastmilk is good for a week in the fridge. That's the rule I use. Your milk should be fine as long as the fridge was cold.
