Breastfeeding and Hot Tubs

Hi all,
I know it is recommended to stay out of hot tubs while pregnant which I did. But now that my little one is almost 4 months, I would love to go in the hot tub when we go on vacation over Thanksgiving. Could this negatively affect my milk? I am exclusively breastfeeding but have loads of milk stored so I could pump and dump if needed. Just wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions....
Thanks!

What can I do next?

I have not had any problems soaking and I have an 11 month old. Just stay hydrated that is all you can do.

There is no problem in using the hot tub. I did, and still do, while breastfeeding. And like a hot shower it will probably increase your likelihood of milk letdown.

I don't think it will affect your milk, but I DO think that the warm water would probably trigger let down! That always happened just in a hot shower for me. I wouldn't care about it if I were just with my husband, but I think it could get embarrassing if there were other people soaking and the bubbles/jets weren't on high to swirl it all around :D

K.,
Hot tubs are not recommended for pregnancy because they raise your body temperature to a point that's not safe for the growing baby. Your milk, however, will be just fine. Have fun on your vacation.

I haven't heard anything bad about breastfeeding and a hot tub. If you heard otherwise the only thing I can think of is that you can get dehydrated while in a hot tub, so keep it to 15 minute intervals and drink lots of water in between. Other than that it is very relaxing and good for you. Us new moms need lots of R&R so enjoy.

No it won't affect your milk. The only reason you're to stay out of hot tubs while pregnant is it raises your body temperature and that's not good for the baby. But it won't affect your milk supply. Relax in the hot tub and enjoy your Thanksgiving vacation! :)

Hey K.! Hot water actually can cause you to produce more milk, so your breasts may actually be even fuller when you get out of the hot tub, but it wont hurt you in any way.

We have a hot tub. i went in it as soon as I was allowed to go in water after pregnancy. I am exclusivley breastfeeding for 9 months now and haven't have a problem. I would have to say this is the first I have ever heard anything about hot tubs and breastfeeding. You should make sure your source is reilable you heard it from.

Hot tubbing while lactating is completely safe, although the warm water might make your milk flow, so nurse before you get in if leaking is an issue for you.
Enjoy!

I exclusively nursed my two girls, now ages 34 months and 15 months and haven't heard anything about hot tubs bothering your milk flow. The only reason you stay out while pregnant is because it is bad for the baby's physical development for your body temperature to get that high. I would say enjoy the hot tub.

I'll be interested to see the other advice, but last I knew it was only pregnancy that could be negatively affected by hot tubs--it can raise your body temperature too high, which is dangerous for the baby. But I've never heard of it curdling milk or anything. :) I have a 9-month-old, and have been taking baths hot enough to qualify, with no noticeable adverse effects. But again, I'm wondering what everyone else says! Good luck! :)

I had the same situation when my daughter was about 6 months old, and I just decided to try out the hot tub. Loved it, and my milk supply didn't get affected at all! :) It was just nice to relax in the warm water for awhile! Maybe try it for 15 minutes the first time or something to see if you have an adverse reaction...

I think it would be just fine to soak in a hot tub, I don't think that it will affect the milk at all. Congratulations on you baby girl!
