Absolutely, your period will be wacky for awhile. Mine came back when my son was 5 months old, just like a regular period, and the next month was very very light and almost nonexistent. Then it didn't come at all the next month and I freaked and thought I might be pregnant, but the test was negative. My son is a year old now, and I'm still breastfeeding, but since he's been on solid foods more and more and nursing less, my periods are getting increasingly regular. But for awhile there they were totally unpredictable, sometimes coming right on time and sometimes not at all, sometimes regular length and regular flow, sometimes longer and heavier, sometimes shorter and lighter. I'm hoping it's finally regulating. Time will tell. I suppose that the frequency of nursing must have some effect on menstruation, but everyone is different. If you're concerned, just put a call in to your doc to ease your mind. Meanwhile, if you're not in the market for another baby you should probably be more careful. There are some birth control options that you can use while BFing too, besides just condoms, that you may want to look into. Your doctor is the best source for all that info. Good luck!
