My family and another family (total of 6) are wanting to plan a camping trip in cabins...possibly in Tyler, TX. We are in the DFW area and don't want to travel too far. Do you have any suggestions? We'd like lakefront with access for the two kids and possibly some paddle boating, etc. I'll take any ideas!

I've even thought about Arkansas, I just haven't mapped the distance and don't know of any places there either.

Thanks.

What can I do next?

Lake Murray is nice (north on I 35 half way to Oklahoma City). The cabins are air-conditioned and have kitchens (much cheaper than eating out). The lake is very clear and there are lots of activities on and near the lake. The playgrounds have been recently updated. The water is warm enough for swimming.

The lake levels are low right now, but I think you will find that at all near-by lakes.

I second the idea about Yogi Bear camping. They DO have cabins. We did this with another family when my kids were about 5 and it was awesome. Don't know the ages of the kids involved but children under 10 would love it!

Check out KOA campgrounds & cabins, they're great. Select the state you want and it gives you the locations -

Yogi Bear campgrounds look really neat! I haven't stayed in them personally but we've been thinking about using them and people I know have loved them. I am not sure if they have cabins though, maybe just tent camping, but worth a Google search!

I don't know what you are wanting to spend, but we go to Deer Lake Cabins every year, and love it.

Just got back today from Rustic Creek Jellystone Park. We go every chance we can. They have a water park, 2 pools, hourly kids activities, hay rides, fire truck rides, movies on the hill, pedal carts, fishing and laser to tag to name a few. It is in Burleson right of 35, we live in Keller it takes 30 to 40 min door to door.

Arkansas is a great place my whole family(moms side and dads side and the kids plus grandkids) go down there once or twice in the summer and they have great cmpgrounds with inexpensive cabins. Its called Greers Ferry(not sure if thats spelt right). Also this place is much farther from you but Branson, Missouri is great. Theres a place called Wolfs Lodge and you can rent boats for the day and theres cabins and houses or you can bring campers. I know that my family has so much fun there.
