Has anyone tried this?
I'm not getting anywhere by submitting my resume to those jobs I qualify for. I've tried to network, but don't want to bother people. And I've had absolutetly zero luck with the temp agency I registered with (Office Team)....and I don't recommend them to anyone, sorry.
I was wondering if I should consider an internship? Not sure how I would go about this. Would it be like applying to a regular job?

Absolutely! I did my internship with GM. I had been a legal secrectary/paralegal and was in college majoring in HR/Labor Relations. My internship was working in the Labor Department and helping with negotiations with GM and the UAW. That experience has opened so many doors for me. I'm an HR/Labor Relations Manager at a manufacturing facility. That internship got my foot in the door!
Yes, it would get you in the door and bring your skills up to date. Applying for an internship is just like applying for a paid position. Although you will be going up against college students.
Keep in mind that most internships are unpaid.
If you haven't worked with a job search coach yet, I would recommend that. You can find them through government employment offices (called WorkForce Centers here in MN) or by googling "job coach" or "life coach" and looking for those who specialize in job search.
Just submitting resumes does not work, you have to network. Networking isn't bothering people, it's networking. Companies are hiring more and more through employee referrals. You need to network so that more of those employees know who you are and can recommend you internally.
You can surely try applying for internships, but as someone else said, it is illegal for them to let you work for free (although I know people who have offered their services to a company for a limited time on a trial basis for free, and then were hired).
Are there more temp/contract agencies in your area? Register with several of them. If they aren't placing you, ask them what you are missing or what you can change to help them market you.
Please, please listen to Sue W.....she knows what she is talking. I'm afraid you really need to network and show that you are determined.
Three interviews in two years isn't good outcome. Mailing/e-mailing only isn't the solution.
You would either need to be in school and eligible to earn college credit or you would have to get paid. It is illegal to allow someone to work without getting paid unless you are receiving compensation via college credits (and you pay for the credits, so you'd be paying to work).
Sure you can, the only thing about Internships is that some pay and some don't.
You need to research the companies around you that offer internships and then apply to them. It is a great way to market yourself! When you do this, the company gets to know you and your abilities. For the most part if you are a great employee and they have an open position, you would be consider by them to interview.
What I am not sure about is if you have to be in school/university/college in order to apply. I am guessing that this information would be posted on their website; and if not you can call them and ask them.
So go for it and give it a try!
