Can Anyone Recommend a Nutritionist in the Coppell/Lewisville Area?

Everything seem to be falling apart, my cholestrol is high and I know i need to lose weight, but now my sugar is very high. I feel sluggish all of the time and the dr says that is because of the high sugar.I have no energy. I need someone to help me with what foods I need to stay away from and feel that I need a lifestyle change and not just a quick diet plan.

What can I do next?

Here is a helpful website about being tired and what to eat and not to eat. It takes more than information and for me. Sticking to the knowledge and following it is far harder than finding it. I wish you the best. I follow this in a ZONE diet fashion. A helpful program to use in changing recipes over to a Zone recipe is Mastercook. (This is a computer program.)

1. Lifeforce plan foods (Be sure and do the hot baths)
2. Zone recipes
3. Use Mastercook
4. Pray alot.
5. I've also personally found help in the ion spa foot soaks. The place I go to for those is in North Richland Hills. Do your research on this first. There's alot of controversy about whether or not this does anything.

I highly recommend Weight Watchers. I do it online, and it really helps to control what I put in my mouth. They offer tons of recipes and snack ideas. There are meetings you can go to for support if you prefer that.

Good luck!

I can't recommend anyone, but your doctor should be able to, and should be able to recommend diet changes. If not, find a new doctor! Eating anything with sugar in it, including carbs without much fiber in them, can make your blood sugar spike and plummet which will make you feel tired. I had problems with low blood sugar and had to eat more protein, less carbs, and make sure my carbs were fiber rich (whole wheat, veggies that aren't starchy) so that my blood sugar would stay more normal. Good news is, if you even lose 10 pounds, you will feel a difference. Something I have tried that helped (if I stick with it) is Arbonne's Figure 8 products. Especially using the protein shake and the fiber shake for lunch (I am a teacher and usually only have about 15-20 for lunch and potty time!). They seem to help the blood sugar problem a little as well. Always check with a doctor before trying these things, though. I tell you how to get the products if you want to try them or you can go to arbonne.com for more info. Good luck!

Hello B.

Talk to Dennis @ the Flower Mound Pharmacy. he can recommend supplements that can help you w/ your cholesterol and other issues.
1- you can start by taking good omega-3's (twinlabs complete omega 3's @ sprout or even at the Flower MoundPharmacy).
2- switch to brown rice (from white rice) takes longer to cook. I usually bake it for 1 hr @ 350 degrees. put the rice on a pan, add boiling water (2 cups water + cup rice) + seasoning, cover and bake 1 hr.
3- whole wheat pasta (barelli has a great whole wheat/multi-grane + omega 3 pasta)
4- avoid MSG
5- avoid high fructose corn syrup
6- see a chiropractor
Good luck! ~C.~

I don't know of one personally but there is a great book called The Blood Type Diet that helped me a lot. I am in my mid 40s and was exhausted all the time. Found out I was a type O who does best on lots of protein and it's true; the more I limit carbs, the better I feel. I have more energy and have lost weight. Worth checking out! Good luck! L.

The Howard Center at Baylor Medical Center at Irving (183 & MacArthur) has regular classes for diabetics and people who are at risk for diabetes (which it sounds like you are). The classes are great - information about how to bring your blood sugar under control and lots more. Your doctor can refer you to the center or you can call and inquire about participating in the classes. The staff there is very supportive and easy to talk to. Call them at ###-###-####.

Hi B.,
I am a registered dietitian and have a friend who is also a registered dietitian. She does in-home counseling (based out of Denton) so you don't have to go anywhere. If you would like her information I would be glad to give it to you in a private email.

You could also check to see if your health insurance covers a dietitian (RD), many of them do when high cholesterol or diabetes is in the picture. If they don't cover a dietitian, they may have thier own program where you communicate with a dietitian through phone, email and mail correspondence.

I would urge you to be careful about where and who you receive nutritional advice from. If you ever feel like someone is only trying to sell you products OR if you are encouraged to go to extremes in your diet (i.e. cutting out all carbs), it's probably not someone who is looking out for your best interests. A good dietitian will encourage you to make slow, gradual changes in your eating and exercise habits -- life changes -- otherwise you could overdo it and end up in a slump again.

Good luck,
A.

Did you ask your doctor for a nutritionist? I would start by cutting out what foods you know are not good for the system ie cookies/cokes/candy/coffee/chips... Try going to a high school and walking the track...It will take time and determination but I was in the same boat and started analyzing what was good/bad in my diet. I have cut out all the aforementioned items along with beef/pork/milk/most yeast products... and started taking every morning fish oil, soy bean, vitamin c, and multi vitamin tablets every morning. Also, drinking a cup of green tea with honey after my morning glass of either grapefruit or cranberry juice. Then through the day, I drink about three cups of black tea with honey. And of course drinking lots of water in between. Good luck.

sounds like you are in the edge of becoming a diabetic. if i were you i would call the lady who is a dietetic nurse that responded and immediately begin to workout with a trainer. you are exhausted because you are not doing anything and your sugar levels are crazy because you need to watch what you eat. look into cutting out white breads, and white potatoes, and white pasta because there is so much more sugar in those. try for wheat carbohydrates, and lots of fresh veggies, some cheese, and some fruit. drink water, tea (with sugar free sweetner). try to stay away from the C's. Candy, cola, cookies, cakes, crackers( unless u follow the serving amount), and chips. hope this helps, and sometimes you need someone to kick you in the tush to get you in gear. find a close friend or family member who is a positive person in your life and start your new life now! it wont always be easy, but please, its your life in your hands. never never never give up!!! YOU CAN DO IT!

I recommend several products from the #1 nutritional supplement company in the U.S. For weight loss, they have the Cinch plan. It consists of meal shakes and meal bars for breakfast and lunch, snack bars, and tea with a nutritional supplement pill. I'm doing it to lose my baby weight. A shake girl myself (vanilla, choco, cafe latte, strawberry), I mix them in the blender and they actually taste yummy. They have a low glycemic index so your blood sugar isn't like a yo-yo. If you go to the website, you can read stories of people just like you whose bodies seemed to be falling apart get back on track with Cinch. www.Cinchplan.com/recipeforhealth Even if you don't use the products, the resources on the site are available free to everyone.
You might examine your diet and see if you are getting the nutrients your body needs. This company also has the most complete multivitamin on the market, Vitalizer (patented time-release technology requires 6 pills). They also have a glucose regulation complex you could use. You can check them out at www.shaklee.net/recipeforhealth.
These products are not quick fixes. As you lose weight and restock your body with nutrients, you will find that you will feel better and get the results you want. It sounds like you are ready to change; you can do it!

If you are in Lewisville, it's not that far of a jump to Decatur. Dr. Kellie Lancaster practices in Decatur on Tuesdays - and she is incredible. She handled my throid disease without medication, has reversed my diabetes (it's gone) and I have successfully lost 114 pounds under her Wholefoods lifestyle guidance - I have never felt better, never been healthier or more fit in my entire life.
