Do you know anyone that has an Entertainment Coupon book? There are a ton in there. I don't know when you need it but I'd be happy to mail you mine--I never use the car rental coupons!

There are some coupons in entertainment books. If you know of anyone who may have bought one, there's an option.
Many car shops hold deals with the nearest rental place for people having their car worked on at their shop. The guys I go to always tell me to drop their name and I get an automatic discount (even if my car isn't being worked on hehe)

I use the entertainment coupons for car rentals all the time. Also try expedia.com or orbitz.com and find the best rates.
I handle the travel for my office, so I deal with this a lot, not to mention, I travel personally a lot. As another Mama said, AAA has some discounts, however, Hertz is their "preferred provider" so the best deals via AAA are with Hertz. Hertz can be the most expensive, so not sure if you're getting any breaks there.
My best advice is to sign up online with the individual companies so you are considered their preferred customer. You may get an email or two, but not a biggie. Lately, I've found that Dollar Car Rental has the best deals. Look on the web page and check out the local city's specials. They have this program called "Lock Low & Go" whereby you pay the price for a compact car but you are guaranteed a mid-size or larger. I have used this several times for me and it has had good results. Don't forget about Enterprise...they are not just for leasing. I had a great experience with them.
Also, be aware that if you rent a car from an airport, it is always more expensive since you have to pay the airport taxes. If there is any way you can rent from "off site", and a lot of companies have locations in hotels, it will save you money. Happy travels!
Well, according to the news the economy stinks LOL I say call and ask everyone. Not just the rental agencies but car dealerships too. They have lots of cars sitting around and some do rent them out. When you call use everything you can come up with. Do you have AAA, will you be driving a senior citizen, military ID? We went to Chicago in June, and we got all kinds of discounts (stores, food, attractions, hotel, parking, cabs) with a military ID or senior citizen discount. You just have to ask. Best of Luck
