Has anyone ever done or been to a painted penquin party? I'm trying to do something different for my 6 year old that he hasn't done before and I thought of this, not sure if he'd like it though. Thanks ladies!

What can I do next?

I have been to a birthday party at Color Me Mine on Crystal Lk. All the kids really enjoyed it. there were boys as well as girls, several different ages. They painted a small plate, they eat thier snacks on it and it is a cute rememberance of the party.

my daughter's Daisy troop did that when she was in kindergarten and she LOVED it. We have done it as a family a few times too. I highly recommend it.

My son who is 5 loves the paint your own pottery places. I read the other responses and one lady though boys would get bored. I don't think I would say boys in generally, I think it just depends on the kid themself, not their gender. Most kids I know would love one of these parties and I think it will be a nice change compared to the typical bowling, etc. parties. I looked into it for my 5 year old, but he wanted a Pump It Up party instead. The only thing with the paint your own pottery is that they can't take it home right away. I thought this may be an issue for littlier ones to understand, but I'd still do it. It's just more hassle for you since you need to deliver them all to the kids a few days after the party.

I did a painted penguin party for my daughter"s sixth bday and I thought it was great. They had an employee serve the cake, assist the kids with painting ,etc and cleanup. It was great the kids got to take the painted item home that day too I would recomend it!

For boys though, I don't know if it would work. Many boys don't have the patience and will get bored after a few minutes of painting. Then you'll have a few running around, while the others are painting. In my experience with two boys, the boys would rather do something physical.

Last year, my daughter had her birthday party at Painted Penquin in Vernon hills. She was 7. My nephew and another kindergarten friend of my daughters also had birthday parties there.

They all loved it. They get to make something and they get to bring it home. I don't remember if I did goodie bags for that birthday party - but for this one you don't really need to. :)

For an additional charge, they supplied the cake. It cost us less than getting one from our local bakery. It was not the best, but the kids wont really care. They can also supply soda.

Also, at the Vernon Hills location, they had a dinosour hunt. (I don't know if that is the exact term?).

Instead of picking out an item to paint, the kids get something that looks like a stone. They have tools to dig up dinasour bones. My daughter and her friends were watching kids next to them doing this and they were all interested in it.

Your son and his friends will like going to the Painted Penquin. Ask your location what they have available for you.

Sounds like a cute idea for a 10 year old. What about breakage factor with children so young?

If you're near Lake Zurich (NW suburbs), my kids love Clay Monet; They paint penguins (or whatever else - lots to choose from), then get them back a week later after being "fired" for a beautiful finish. They do birthday parties, and I believe it's a chain/franchise, so you could look into this in other areas, too.
