Hi Mommas! I need some advice. I have been working overnights for the past three years and well I'm tired. I'm a residence aide for the mentally disabled. At first I found this job to be very rewarding but I'm at the point where I dread going into work.I'm also a cosmetology student and I graduate in October. There's a part of me that thinks it isn't that much longer until I graduate but I'm so burned out from working I am missing out on stuff with my son. Currently I am interested in being a consulant for a company called thirty one. Does anyone do this? I have never done anything like this and I'm really nervous. I'm willing to put the work in, thats not the issue but I do need a pretty steady paycheck too.

What can I do next?

I would never leave a full time paying job for a home party business.

However, I can understand how you must feel.
First let me say how wonderful of you to be able to work in this environment period.

Okay so can you ask your current employer if you can change shifts? To
a day shift? If it's not available now, ask to be put on a list.
Another thing you could do is look for a different place to work in the same field. Just another facility.

Then find ways you might be able to "work with" your current schedule.
A time you can get up to spend time w/your toddler.
Ways to rest during the day etc.

Please do not leave a steady paycheck for a "home party" business. You can make this work until you finish school and can secure a more "regular" job in a salon.

I have friends who do these businesses... Thirty One, Tastefully Simple, Mary Kay, Party Light... they are a TON of work, mostly in the evenings for minimal financial pay out, at least in the beginning. They use this income as their "fun money", not to support a family.

I don't know what thirty one is but there should be some options within your agency for day time hours with mentally disabled that are more interesting than overnights. Perhaps you could look into day treatment or being a case manager which pays more too.

These companies like 31 are the kind where you mostly make money from recruiting others. They are pyramid schemes. Do not quit a steady job for something like this! Once you have exhausted your friends limits to buy bags, it will be very difficult to find other clients.

You want to view anything "home party" as if you were going to take a "straight commission" position. This is NOT a steady paycheck and although certainly YOUR talents determine how much you make (one rep can make twice what another does, simply because one is "better" or whatever) the revenue is still dependent on customers rather than on YOU.

You will also still miss stuff with your son. You can't take him to parties. Most of the parties are on weekends or nights when all the ladies are home from work.

Where do you want to work when you graduate? Can you get a job there, only in a different position? For example - maybe work the front desk, taking appointments etc until you graduate and can move into the position that requires your degree?
