I provided extensive list of ideas to the "Vacation in Michigan/Wisconsin area-need ideas please" question by Elaine B on May 21, 2014. I didn't cover Charlevoix extensively, but it has a nice bridge area for boats to get to Lake Michigan and back into the lake in the interior. Plenty of restaurants and shops, and I'm sure there is golfing nearby. You are close enough to take a day trip to Mackinac Island or go to the vineyards on the peninsula off of Traverse City. Enjoy.

On the way up, if you need to stretch their legs, check out the Meijer Gardens/Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids.

AH - my hubby's home town! We don't live near there, but we do visit. In the summer they have some concerts in the park downtown. Check out the schedule. There is also a fountain near the band shell that kids can run in (bring extra clothes or swimsuits). Nothing fancy - it's not a splash pad or anything - but the kids all seem to love it.

I don't have a favorite place to eat or anything. My in-laws and husband like the Argonne and Weathervane, but I prefer more casual dining. Friske's has great donuts, go early while they are warm and fresh. I like to take lunch to Ferry Beach or one of the other beaches.

My idea of relaxing is just relaxing at the beach, and Charlevoix is a great place to do that. Have fun!

Oh -you are also not too far from Mackinaw City (about an hour) and 1 1/2 hours from the sleeping bear dunes.
