Child-proofing Flat Screen TV

I'm looking for advice on how to child-proof our 42" flat screen TV. My husband and I are arguing about whether to tether it to the wall or mount it to the wall. I've read that mounting it is much safer. It is currently on a coffee table level surface. Our baby is 6.5 months old and looking to crawl soon. Anyone else dealt with this?

What can I do next?

HI,

I would recommend the wall mount (with or with out the arm - depending on location). I have a 7 year old, 5 year old, and 9 month old. The more stuff "up" the better! I got rid of all my little black boxes too - no more buttons to push. If you need someone to do that - call Sean O'Brien at CIA Home, Inc. ###-###-#### (www.ciahome.com). I am bias - he is great and my husband. That is what his company does.

Good Luck,
K.

Ours is standing on a very sturdy entertainment unit in the corner of the room. If you leave it on a stand, make sure it is a solid, heavy stand with a stable base. If you choose to mount it, make sure it is out of baby's reach until s/he is old enough to understand hands-off.

It's pricey to have it professionally mounted (something like $300), and since we rent and don't want damage to the walls, we found an easier solution.
We have a spare dresser/chest of drawers which is really sturdy and put the t.v. on top of that. Problem solved and it's high enough and the t.v. is set back. The drawers also serve as storage for cd cases (got rid of the wobbly cd towers too).
Also, don't feel rushed.
Our babe started to crawl at 7.5 mos but is only now, at almost 9 mos., starting to show interest in pulling up. Our coffee table is still full of baby no-nos.

I too have a flat screen and preferred the wall mounting. It is extremely secure and can be locked into place so that no one can make it move up, down, etc.

You dont have to have it professionally mounted, you can buy one with the tv and all you need is a leveler and a drill.

either way, but do something.. mounting on the wall seems better, but it still scares me that it may fall.
