Hi,
I guess it depends on where your t.v is going to be and how easy it would be for your child to access. We have a flat screen that was originally on a stand but not set back into a cabinet or anything else adn it became a serious concern for us when our daughter could reach it. We bought the equipment and had it mounted on the wall. Most electricians can help you do this and depending on where you are mounting it and some other factors it should not cost to much (an hour labor or so). We decided that when we mounted ours we would also get rid of all of the boxes (cable and dvd) and put them in the basement and access them with a remote, this cost a little extra but now we don't have to look at the wires or boxes in our living room.
Good luck.
