My sons birthday is coming up in 2 weeks. He attends daycare. I asked his daycare if I can bring in cake and have a little party for him. Would it be proper to put invitations in the other childrens cubbies?, since everyone will be at daycare. I would like him to get a couple of gifts but that is not the main thing. The reason I want to have it at daycare is because the rest of the weekends this month are all full with plans .....

What can I do next?

I would not do invitations. Usually, when you do a birthday party at the school, no one is expected to bring gifts, but some of his best friends might -- after the party. If you do invitations, it will look badly socially, as if you are soliciting gifts.

Most daycares do not allow invitations to be placed in the children's cubby. I have always had to mail mine out to the parents. I would check with the daycare to make sure of their policy. Also, check to see if the kids would be allowed to bring gifts to daycare for your son. I have only heard of daycares allowing the parents to bring cake, brownies, or cupcakes to share with all the other children.

I think that's a wonderful idea and a very nice gesture1 Everyone gets an invitation and an opportunity to recognize their special friend at daycare with a gift-and your child gets to celebrate his birthday on the actual day! Good for you!

I don't think that invitations are necessary.

it is totally acceptable to bring a treat to daycare but completely out of line to expect the daycare to allow you to send invites and give the impression that the daycare is giving a party for your son. if you want to have kids come and bring gifts you should be hosting it outside of the daycare. just my opinion but i think it is weird to send invites to kids in his daycare that your having a party during daycare hours at the daycare.

adding this to my answer. If you send out invitations to your childs birthday party at the daycare and one of the parents chooses to "not" celebrate your childs birthday where should that child go during his daycare day?

Find out the policy from the daycare. Some will allow you to bring treats but will not make it a formal party with invitations and gift exchange, unless that is the case for all of the children. Sometimes it's to avoid the drama of the other children wanting to play with the new toys, too, and then there are the time constraints if the daycare has a set daily schedule.

If you are having it at daycare, I don't think you can expect presents and I think that invitations would not be appropriate.

Have the party after everything settles down or have it on a weekday evening, but don't expect the daycare to host a party for your son. It's no big deal for you to bring a treat, but check with the daycare about which the kids will actually eat. In my experience, the younger kids don't really eat cake or cupcakes, but love special cookies.

Most daycares are more than fine with cupcakes, and many have little ceremonies (crowns, or songs, etc)... but I have only ever heard of one daycare that allowed parents to have "parties" for their children's birthdays during daycare hours on site.
