I had never stepped foot into a chiropractors office, until I was hired to do insurance and billing for one. Actually, I thought chiropractic care was pretty quacky and unsafe. Yeah...no. My chronic rib problems were FINALLY solved after years and years. My foot problem was fixed. I stopped getting headaches, and ear infections. I made my husband go in and get his feet treated, as well. Honestly, it totally changed my life. I go whenever I can, and my son has gone since birth. My husband can't get in often, but will make it when something comes up.
Here is the key: not all chiropractors are created equal. If you are not physically comfortable, you will never get better. You have to be able to relax and be loose. (As loose as you can be, while you have all these physical things going on!!) You might have too look until one is highly recommended, or you really like them. There is a thing that many chiropractors do, where they try to get you coming forever. A GOOD chiropractor will do these 3 things. Treat pain first, repair the problem, and them maintain. If you are very bad off they might want to see you several times over the next few weeks. Once you are to a manageable point, they will tell you to come back every to every other month. (This is the maintenance part.) It's up to you, if you think it's worth it. If you have chronic pains, it almost always will be. A BAD chiropractor will try to put you on a plan hat lasts for months.
Here is what to expect: They might want to take an x-ray. If you are really bad off, they don't want to risk hurting you. If your ailments have reached a certain point, you might need a specialist or physical therapy before they proceed with chiropractic care. A good chiropractor has no problem saying they aren't the right treatment for you. You will most likely be sore after the first or second time. Your body has been all messed up, and your muscles have become accustomed to certain positions and flexes. Soreness, is normal. It's good, actually! Bad pain, is not normal or good. To help with the soreness drink lots of water. More then you normally would. (That will help with any lactic acid.) Take a hot Epsom salt bath, if you are very sore. Try not to take OTC pain meds, as your body needs to create inflammation, in order for it to begin healing.
If you are ever near Flower Mound, I know an AWESOME chiropractor I can recommend.
