Hello ladies!! I have a question... this is my baby's first Christmas and she is almost 10 months so she'll be 11 months during that time. I dont know what to get her!! At first we were going to get her that "crawl in kitchen" I think it was by Fisher Price but that got recalled. Do you have any good ideas or any special stores we could go to?? I checked out Target in New Braunfels but they didnt have much. Also, I have one more question. My little tot loves to hit and pull hair!! She is only 10 months old!! Her cousin was the same way and she will be 2 and is still mean! What do I do?? Thank you

What can I do next?

Hi B.,

Soon she will be pulling up, standing and walking. She will need some toy she can ride on, pull the handle up and push and walk behind. That would be a good thing to get her at this age.

My daughter as this music table with buttons, lights, all the bells and whistles. It sings ABC's, colors, numbers, in english, and spanish. She has a great time with it.
Also, wooden puzzles with handles on the pieces are great.
Books are great. Try the Melissa and Doug web site for neat, unique toys. They do some of the classic old school toys that we played with. Boxes are always great. My kids played with the large boxes their toys came in. they made cars, houses, and spent more time playing with them, than the actual toys.

My daughter was 10 months old her first Christmas, and we WAY over did it. All we ended up getting for ourselves was a toybox full of toys (never touched or broken pieces) that she was not interested in. Over the years (she's 5 yrs.old now) we have cleaned out the toybox time and again, and some of those toys from that first Christmas keep resurfacing!LOL
Anyway, the ONLY thing we got her on that first Christmas that has proven to be AWESOME since day one and going was a Little Tikes Wagon. We have definetely gotten our moneys worth with that one. It grows with them through the years, and when our second child came along, we could transport both of them in it! We go on walks in our neighborhood, use it on holidays like 4th of July, take it to the Zoo, etc. Great investment, and I am sure she would love it!

At 10 months this child does not know to expect anything for Christmas . It is a good time for you to invest in her future by starting a collage fund or buying some stocks or bonds or even buy life insurance. If you just have to get something make it small. Babies at this age love the box more than the toy. Books are good if you take the time to read them to her even if you are reading pictures. Don't start off getting your child more than they can handle or need. It is just not a good idea to start that bad habbit. Giving you child all the love and attention she wants and needs is better than any gift you can buy. Quality time and tender loving care is very important.

Your baby will probably play with the boxes and gift wrap longer than a toy. Educational toys are good for small children and need to be safe. Step One is a catalog store with parent interventions and you might find something good for your baby.
Remember you neeed to save for later years when the child has special request and old enough to enjoy the gifts. So be smart and don't waste. Baby blocks, a good spoon, something that helps with motor skills will do just find. Also, keep in mind that family and friends will bring gifts.

B.,
Keep it simple. Wooden blocks, Peek-a-blocks, those great cardboard books that kids love to eat. If you teach her more about your family traditions than what's under the tree, she'll get a greater gift from you that she can truly cherish. Simple gifts full of love are better than all of these expensive toys that kids are getting nowadays.

My youngest daughter was 13 months old at her second Christmas and we bought her a bunch of Peek-a-blocks. She still plays with some of them! I'm still not sure who had more fun... her daddy, her, or her siblings. (LOL) Whatever you decide, enjoy the season and may the Goddess bless you all.

My son absolutely loves his ride on walker. It was great to practice walking and help him keep his balance and now that he is older, 2 years, he loves to ride his "car" around. Here is one I saw at walmart but they sell many different kinds. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=882533
Here are some at target.com too.
http://www.target.com/Push-Pull-Toys-Baby/b/ref=in_br_bro...
My son has the nemo one and he loves it even though the batteries are dead now and the seat lifts up so he can put his little toys in there and take them for a ride too!
My son also got the ball popper toy that another person mentioned and he loves that also...even the older kids liked that toy.
As for the hitting/pulling hair, don't think of your daughter as mean. She doesn't understand that concept yet. She is just liking the big reaction she gets when she does this and it makes her feel in control of her environment. You can have her start saying sorry to the victim or have her give a hug and then praise her for the kind action instead of getting upset over the hitting. Still tell her that hitting hurts, and let her know it is unacceptable, but don't make too big a deal or she will do it to see you react too. You may have to seperate her from the other person for a minute or two to redirect her attention to something else. It is hard at this age because the little ones are so curious and persistent!
Good luck.

Hi B.! My son was 9 months last Christmas. He got so many toys, but his absolute favorite was a busy ball popper. He wouldn't stop playing with it. You can get one at Wal-mart. http://www.amazon.com/Hasbro-Playskool-Busy-Ball-Popper/d... This website has a picture. It plays music and shoots these little plastic balls all over the place. He loved it.

Tupperware has some great classic toys for little ones and has some great Dora Snack Sets too. I don't know about you, but I am so nervous about toy shopping with all the toy recalls going on! Tupperware has some safe, fun toys from a trusted company that does not cut corners! I love the Shape-O toy and the Kids Mini Party Set - I have an almost 3 year old and she is getting both of these for Christmas. I am a tupperware consultant - if you are interestd in any of these check out my website at www.my2.tupperware.com/laraiezzi. Happy Shopping!!

My oldest child was 10 months old on her first Christmas. We bought her the Little Tikes garden. It was hugely popular (that was 8 years ago!). Since we've had two boys and both of them have loved. We actually just got rid of it...so I can say that it was part of our family for 8 years and very much used and loved.

What about the little tykes junior slide? She obviously can't climb the stairs herself right now but I remember at that age my little one loved going down the slide at the park while we held her. Since it's a small slide you can set her on it and hold her while she goes down. In a few months, certainly by summer, she'll really love it.

For hitting and pulling hair we would take my daughters wrist and lightly squeeze it while telling her a firm "no". She seemed to get the idea pretty quickly.

Hi B., Let me tell you what I'm doing for my one year old Grand daughter I'm going to make her First Christmas Tree. They are small I'm using a white one for her I am decorating it with ballerina bears, tiny lights and other pink decorations.Around the bottom I have diapers that are covered to look like snow. I am going to put a larger bear at the bottom but of course I could put whatever you would like. Her mother is going to put this on her little table next to the big tree. I make these and diaper cakes.I am talking orders now. Please check out my web site. diapercakesbybetty.com and give me a call

We got our daughters the Laugh and learn learning home for their first b day and they LOVE it!! They also make a kitchen, my friend has it for her son and my daughters love it too. I was planning on getting my kids some kind of v smile (or another brand I'm not too sure yet) learning video game. I also want to get them some plush chairs for their reading area. My daughters will be 15 months old around the time of Christmas, so they are a little older but I'm sure your baby could play with alot of those things too.

There is a little kitchen that is by little tykes and it has three shapes that go in the kitchen, and some pans for the stove and oven that even make noises! You might find it at Once Upon a child or so! My daughter got hers for her first birthday and still has it! It is just their size when they are that little! Also the clear blocks with shapes, animals etc in them!
Best of luck!

If you'd really like to get her a few toys, try heading to Tuesday Morning (there's one in New Braunfels in the outlet mall and one in Universal City near the Mr. Gatti's). They usually have some well-made, simple toys - many made in Germany from real wood - that she will like for a long time.
