Christmas Miracles

We just took our tree down and I have been thinking about ways of keeping the hope of Christmas alive. I posted part as an answer about Santa, but I wanted to post it here and ask you wonderful moms to share your miracle stories. So here is mine. I hope you will share yours.

This year our family experienced a Christmas miracle. My mother, who will be 80 in a few months, has to get down dangerous basement stairs to do her laundry. A few days before Christmas, a delivery truck from Lowe's showed up at her house and two men carried in a stackable washer dryer for her kitchen. At the same time a dear friend from the neighborhood who happens to be a contractor showed up with all the tools for the installation. Here is the thing. A family friend who now lives in Oklahoma had purchased the washer/dryer for my mom and had arranged the details for installing it. This woman was someone my mom had helped out 20 years ago when she was a single mom with no family and no where to go. (sounds a lot like another Christmas story to me). We never had much money, but my mom made room for everyone and stretched money to feed everyone. We have all been so worried about my mom going down those stairs, and while my sister and I tried to get things fixed up for my mom, she just would not let us. I am not sure why. This gift, of course, was something she could not refuse. She cried, I think with a combination of relief and joy and love, when it arrived and when she called our friend to thank her.

So when my son was asking about whether Santa was real or not (after he wondered why Santa didn't bring gifts for grown ups) I told him this story and looked him in the eye and said "Now do you understand." And he smiled back with warmth and love in is eyes and said "Absolutely."

not really a "miracle" more about an 8 year old heart. Our neighbors have 7 kids ranging from late 20's to my sons age, the dad and the older boys owned thier own company but it went under in the construction crash they have been scraping by since- okay long story
While taking out our Christmas decorations we had an extra tree that we had bought last year but was too small for our ornaments. I told the boys we were just going to leave it in the box dont mess with it. My 8 year old said- Mom (neighborgirl) said her dad couldnt get them a tree this year do you think they would like this one? I said I guess we could call and and ask he said " No lets wait until they go to sleep put in thier porch as a surprise"
Which we did and walking home after my son looked at me and said, this must be how santa feels

What a beautiful story. This year my son witnessed a Christmas miracle when his friend's mom was told that her doctors had found a liver donor for her - they have been waiting 5 years for one to become available. They received the call the day after Christmas, and she had the surgery yesterday.

This isnt really a miracle, but it was my favorite moment this year was seeing my grandma out of bed and dressed. I recently had to admit her to a nursing hom after a stroke. Then she had to get a feeding tube because the stroke caused it to be very difficult to swallow anything without aspirating. Now that she does not have to leave her room/bed to eat, she doesn't leave at all. (The staff has strongly encouraged her, but she refuses and they cant force her. She also has threatened (and followed through with it) to purposely fall when they try to get her out of bed.) When i got there, i had someone help me get her dressed in her christmas outfit, complete with bra (!) sitting in her wheel chair, attempting to draw a picture while i rearranged her room and hooked up the converter box to her television. While it tired her out, it gives me hope that she will get out of bed more often now.

Wow! I love these messages. They all brought tears to my eyes. It's true that kids learn from what their parents DO more than from what they SAY. Kudos to you all! I LOVE when my kids show their tender hearts for those in need.
