This is pathetic but I can't really think of what to get my daughters for Christmas. They're a recent 7 and soon to be 6. They both love their American Girl dolls so I'll get them some accessories. And they both like arts and crafts projects but curious if I'm missing anything. They have plenty of clothes and don't play video games. What are you daughters asking for? Any good board games for this age? They want everything they see but I hate clutter. Thanks. (And we will also give presents to less fortunate people so I won't make Christmas all about them getting presents. But we weren't wealthy growing up yet had big Christmases so it's something that's hard for me to give up for the kids.)
We try to get a fun kitchen gadget every year. The other day I saw a donut maker! I'm going back to get it! How fun! And I think it was $20. They also had cake ball makers and all sorts of fun things.
My daughter got a digital camera as her big gift when she was 6. She's 8 now and still loves it!
Hello, our daughter is 6 and also very crafty and creative. She's asking for a sewing machine this year and I purchased a Hello Kitty machine by Janome. It's a real machine, not a toy machine, and the reviews are 5/5 stars. I read on an American Girl post here that there are clothing patterns for AG dolls (Simplicity). Might be fun to make :) Something to think about ...

If you don't like clutter, how about giving them something that they would experience, rather than something material? Zoo passes? Movies tickets? Classes for a craft, sports, music or something?
My daughter is 7 and has a game called "Headbanz". We get together with some other moms and kids for "game night" periodically and it is hugely popular with a bunch of age groups, down to 5/6 ish up to 10. I just noticed it in the Walmart Christmas toy guide for less than $10.
I too have been wondering what the heck to get our daughter for Christmas. I already have some really beautiful books that I know she will love, but have been wondering about that DS games stuff.....so many choices DS, DSxl, DSL ???????? I don't really know the difference between them all. My husband just gave her his old MacBook laptop and wants to know why she would need a handheld gaming device. She has a Leapster which I thought she might be outgrowing...he looked at the newer Leapster Explorer and Leapster something else in Walmart today and said that they say "up to age 9" so he's happy not getting another game system. Oh, what to do, what to do? We travel alot and that's when she usually uses the games...while strapped into her carseat rolling down the road, or while I'm timing him at some race track on weekends.
Fingernail polish! My daughter is 8 & has loved it for years. What about headbands or some hair things -- a comb & brush of their own? Since they are crafy, what about those "how to make a potholder" kits? Do they have sleeping bags? Books are wonderful gifts! I know they are girls, but what about Legos? Their own (child's) digital camera? Gymnastics classes for the winter? A robe? One or two pieces of fun clothing (a more expensive shirt than you'd normally buy, or special tights or shoes).

Books! Books are not clutter if your girls read them.
Art materials (drawing, painting, etc., as distinguished from crafts) are not clutter, either, and they can open a new field of imagination - even if it's just a box of colored pencils and a pad of drawing paper.
What about hair things? Comb and brush sets with their names on them? A whole big box full of barrettes and headbands and scruchies and whatever else they like? (Correction: get small boxes, not big ones. This stuff adds up!)
Is there something special they'd like to do with Mom or Dad? What about a tiny gift-wrapped box with a promise inside that "You and I will go camping together next summer" or some such thing?
There are all sorts of board games and family card games in the stores this time of year - so many that you'll need to ask your daughters' friends parents for recommendations.

games - monopoly jr, uno, cranium makes great games
if they like american girl dolls - the books or movies to go with them
art supplies - we used to make all our own cards, birthday cards, Christmas cards - maybe beads and make some jewelry
an ornament - each year I buy my girls an ornament, we enjoy hanging them on the tree each year and sharing the memories and when they grow up, they'll have a collection for their own tree
a backpack or special bag that they can use for going to sleepovers or a weekend at grandma's house
bath/beach towel - growing up I alway had my own special bath towel
