Chronic Diarrhea

My 2 1/2 month old daughter apparently has chronic diarrhea, this according to my own diagnosis. She has had this problem since she was about 2 weeks old. I have taken her to her ped. several times, we have switched formula probably 5 or 6 times. Nothing has helped. She goes and it GOES everywhere. I am at my wits end with this. I have a call into the ped. now, to get a referral for a specialist which ever kind that may be. I just thought I would see if anyone has dealth with this. My daughter is gaining weight. She wants to eat every 3 hours, sometimes sooner especially if she has pooped. Her stomach gets so bloated and you can just feel it gurgling around in there ready to explode (literally).
Any insight or thoughts on this would be great. I'm losing sleep because the poor baby empties her tummy out when she has an explosion and constantly wants to eat.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Just an update. Last night was a horrible night. She was up all night long, miserable. She just cried and cried and cried. Her poop was pure water with a yellow color to it. I switched her formul on Sunday back to the soy based, we were on gentlease, and went back to Soy. It almost seems worse now than it was with the Gentlease. I heard back from her ped. and they are scheduling us to see a GI specialist. She hasn't been sick or been on any medication, so I can't even blame it on that. She has had this problem all her life (a whole 2 mos.) She was ok for the first couple of weeks, but then all of the sudden it just started to become more and more diarrhea. We'll see what the specialist says. I just want some relief for her. She was so miserable last night. Thanks for all the advice, hopefully this other dr. can give me some better answers.

A friend of my family had a problem with this about 4 years ago with their newborn and they ended up finding that goats milk was the only thing she could tolerate. You might ask your pediatrician if you should be looking at things other than formula.

my son just went through this exact same thing. We ended up taking him to a GI pediatric specialist. The problem? He had recently been on antibiotic and it killed both the good and the bad bacteria. The solution: we put him on probiotics. Its a chewable, and they have drops also, twice a day that puts the good bacteria back in his system. He had no other symptoms either. Within two days he was back to normal. Not sure this is what is wrong with your daughter but it is something to think about before spending the time and money on a specialist when in my opinion my pediatrician should have caught this. We got them at the health food store, they were 3.69 a bottle.

You are doing a great job! Keep pushing for answers because something is wrong with that baby. It almost sounded like an allergic reaction to something but it now sounds like she has a bit more of a problem than allergies.

Make sure she is staying hydrated, the poor thing. We are all praying for you and your family.

I have a 20 month old dd and she has gone through this on and off, from a different cause, I was giving her apple juice and it was what was causing it. I put her on Garden of Life Primal Defense for Kids, it is a Probiotic and she has had better bm's than she has ever had. I would definately go to your closest health food store, tell one of the staff what she is doing and they will generally have a great step 1 step 2 recommendation for you. It has never failed me, just to be on the safe side make sure you ask them for their best staff member regarding baby's and baby's digestive systems.

My son had this problem from the time he was an infant. At the time I was nursing him so it was suggested that I stop any dairy in my diet. When that didn't work we began him on several different formulas and finally found the only thing that worked was a fomrula called Nutramigen (very expensive) this seemed to help some. Finally the doctor did a blood test called a RAST test and found out that the poor baby was allergic to milk, wheat, soy and peanuts so when he became a toddler it was quite interesting. I had to make everything with alternative flours and he drank rice milk. Fortunately he has outgrown everything except the peanut allergy and is now 8 and eats dairy with no problems. I am glad to hear that you are taking her to a specialist. I would suggest they do a RAST test and see what foods she is allergic to and switch her formula to one that she won't be allergic to. In the meantime always be sure to carry plenty of wipes and extra clothes with you at all times. I know right now it's not an easy time but it will get better. You are in my prayers.
