Cleaning Leather Sofa

We recently purchased a new leather sectional sofa. My husband picked it out and it's definitely a "man couch"! It has 4 recliners and between my husband, three teenagers and a young niece and nephew some one is always lying on it! My question is: What is the best stuff for cleaning it? The furniture store didn't have a cleaning kit when we bought it. They said we could go to a saddle shop or Walmart to find something. So, Mamas, what do you use to keep your leather sofa looking nice?

What can I do next?

Well I had a leather sofa (my daughter has it now) I used saddle soap and soft cloths to pick up heavy mess. And of all things I went to a shoe store and picked up a leather shoe cream for the nice/shiny/finsihed look---it was wonderful but never enough in that little bottle--but my marron sofa still looks good when I visit my daughter. Also if you can vacum under the pillows or again use a soft cloth the remove anything that should not be there-just be gentle it is after all not on the cow anymore. Mine took a real beating and still is great!!!

We use the leather cleaning wipes. If it is a big spill i use a soft cloth and if sticky, slightly damp then follow up with the leather cleaning wipes.

For ours, I use a slightly damp rag to wipe it off, followed by a dry rag to dry off any damp spots. That's worked for most stuff. For anything beyond that, I'd be tempted to call the couch manufacture (or visit their website) and see what they recommend. In general, though, I like to use Murphy's Oil Soap (love the smell) to clean leather (and our hard wood floor); I haven't tried it on the leather sofa yet, but I've never had a problem with it w/ any other leather goods. I've used MO for years on shoes and belts and my horse's saddle/bridle & riding boots when I did a lot of riding (back before kids, LOL).

We have always used a damp cloth to wipe away the dirt and dust, then dried if off with a clean dry cloth. And once or twice in the 6 years that we have had our leather furniture, we used leather cleaner. It still looks great.

Just use a tiny bit of saddle soap and a damp cloth. I don't know how dark or porous your couch is, so be careful that you don't use too much.

You can get it at Walmart, Vons, Target, etc...Lexol, Fiebings are big name brands.

They also sell these leather wipes that come in a container. I keep them around and wipe down our couches once a week. I only "clean" them on occasion or as the dog runs in with muddy feet and jumps on my couch!

When we bought ours, the sales guy told me we could clean it with Windex...which I have done for years. I used to rub them all down with leather lotion but haven't done that in years...lol I have used baby wipes too like that previous responder.

I've been using wieman leather cleaner and polish on our new set. The couch looks gorgeous at I get done cleaning it. You spray the cleaner on a soft cloth and wipe down the couch with it.

I wipe mine down with baby wipes.

We have a set in the family room at 10 yrs old, a higher end custom set in formal area about 3 yrs old and then the old Natuzzi upstairs in the game room that is about 15 yrs old.
