Mamas & Papas-

Just bought a leather sofa from IKEA. After hemming and hawing about getting something with slipcovers, or something in faux leather, we decided to take the plunge with hopes that the leather would be the better investment.

Now that it is here, any tips on upkeep care & maintenance. It isn't near direct light or near the radiators. Do I need anything more than a damp rag to handle a spill? Do I have to use leather conditioners/ cleaners (if so, how often).

Thanks a bunch,
F. B.

What can I do next?

I use a leather cleaner every few weeks, or whenever I see muck.

You won't regret going with the leather. It really is the easiest with little ones!

But yes, you could just wipe it with a damp cloth. I do think you'll want to condition it occasionally, though, as leather will dry out and get crumbly, especially if not expensive leather.

I just use a damp cloth to clean it and sometimes a gentle cleaner on it as well (like Method or Mrs. Meyers) if it gets dirty. I like it so much better then micro fiber or fabric which always leaves marks when you clean it.

You can buy a leather cleaner/conditioner or saddle soap and use them too.

I have a set of Natuzzi (from 2000) in our family room that has help up like a charm with daughter and 3 dogs. All I ever do is use a damp rag.

We have a Natuzzi sofa that is even older in the upstairs game room and it is great as well.

Our set in our formal area is custom made, about 8 years old and not used as much. It still looks brand new. I just wipe it down to keep dust from building up.

I've found the leather to be much easier to keep clean and it just feels cleaner to me than upholstery.

Enjoy!

I've had leather (several sets) for about 30 years.
All I've ever done was white them with a damp cloth. No need for anything more than that!
