Clear Care Contact System!! Another Recommendation??

I use Acuvue Oasys contacts and am very happy with them. My problem is with the cleaning system/solution. Recently, my Eye Dr. recommended I use Clear Care System with the bubbling case. I have dry eyes and very often my eyes get really dry and a little red by the late afternoon. The Oasys contacts have helped a lot, but I also wanted a good solution which would help add moisture to my eyes too. The Clear Care really seems to help, but here is my problem. I have had 4 contacts come out of this system cracked or damaged on the edge of the contact. I can't afford this happening anymore. I know I am using the system correctly (I've read/re-read the directions) so I just don't understand. Has anyone had this happen too?? What contact solution system do any of you moms out there use and are really happy with?? I think it will be best to just change systems/solutions. Opti-Free, Aquify???? Remember about my dry eyes b/c I'd love to find a solution which is extra moisturizing too. Thanks so much for the advice.

So What Happened?

I switched to Opti-Free Replenish system and I love it so far. Some of you recommended this plus it was the "back-up" system from my Dr. too. I did go back to her right away when my contacts were tearing from the Clear Care system case. She did give me more samples, but after ruining 4 contacts, it was time to change. The Opti-Free is simple with the regular cleaning case and my eyes feel refreshed and I hardly ever use my rewetting drops now. I've been able to wear my contacts almost every day, all day now. Thanks

Hi, J.. I use Acuvue Oasys, too, and I LOVE them! My eyes used to dry out, too, but I don't have near the problem I did before the Oasys'. I use Alcon's Opti-Free Replenish solution and have no problems with it. Maybe this will work for you, too. Smiles, S.

I use OptiFree as my soaking and cleaning solutions, but due to dry eyes I also use their eye drops. My optometrist gave me a couple sample bottles and so far so good. I find my eyes get drier and more sore as the day goes on. Hope this helps.

That strange- my husband and I have used that system for over 10 years and never had that happen... you might want to call your eye doctor for a new recommendation since he/she knows your situation best. I recently moved to the dailies, and LOVE the convenience of them... you wear them one day and toss them. Perfect for a sleep-deprived mommy like myself! And the best part- no solutions or storage to mess with!

I've had great success with Opti-Free Replenish. My eyes don't get as dry as they used to and even during allergy attacks they don't have as many problems, that time used to be the worst for me.

I use RENU. It's an all-in-one. I only buy the small bottles & make sure that you check the expiration date.
I have had extreme allergies to eye products, Visine, solutions, etc. I actually used a special salt tablet that I got from the optomitrist for the first 2 yrs. Then found RENU and have been with it since.
Best of luck to you.

Hi J.,
I also have dry eyes and use the Acuvue Oasys lenses. I've been using Aquify multipurpose solution by CibaVision. It has worked well for me for the last 2-3 years. It's more expensive than the Opti-Free, but I found that I couldn't go more than 8 hours when using the Opti-Free solution.

Hi J.,

I too have severe dry eyes and use the Acuvue Oasys contacts. They have helped me as well but as you well know nothing really helps when you have this severe of dry eyes. It can control your life.

I tried Restasis (prescription needed), and had very good results for nearly a year. Then it seemed to not be working or I was becoming immune to the product working.

Opti free seems to be the best brand I can find for my dry eyes. Try that one and also buy some Systane re-wetting drops as well. You can find these in 2 bottle packs at Sam's. They are way better than any other rewetting drops I have used in the past.

Hope this helps you. I know the misery of dry eyes!

Go back to the system that did not dry out your lenses and use the moisturizing drops for contact lens users. Ask your eye doctor for advice too.

I know everyone's solution to your problem is to buy something different which $$$ adds up - - but my two cents is that the ONLY thing that works for me is Bosche&Lomb no rub. (not just the drops but i get the disenfectant and everything in 1 bottle and it's the only thing that moisturizes and doesn't sting my eyes to high heavens! good luck!

I'm not familiar with the Clear Care system but I wear contacts and also have dry eyes. Call the company and let them know what happend, sometimes they can reimburse you or at least let you try another product at no charge. Also, if you work on a computer all day (as I do) my dr recommends looking away at different distances a couple times an hour and reminding yourself to blink as much as possible. We often forget to blink when working on a computer and that can make the problem worse. I also keep rewetting drops near on my desk all the time to use when necessary. Just be sure to keep the lid on tight and out of reach of little ones. Most companies will send you coupons if you call and ask, especially if you are thinking of trying one of their products.
Good luck.

I have recently started using Clear Care after my solution was discontinued. When the Dr. instructed me, he said to make sure I rub back & forth, not circular when pre-cleaning the lenses or they could tear. It has been over a month with no tears. I would occasionally have problems when using the old solution & they seemed to be bunched, so I figured it was a defective lot of contacts. Maybe you should call Acuvue?

Hi J.,
I don't know anything about the Clear Care. However, I will say that I have issues with dry eyes as well. I also have pretty bad eye allergies. I went from Acuvue 2 to the Oasys with my doctors suggestion. They worked well with the dry eye problem but I noticed that they were a lot more fragile than the Acuvue 2 and would tear on me before the month (that they were supposed to last) was up. I have since gone back to the Acuvue 2 and use drops. Good Luck! I think I am going to seriously look into Lasik. After all is said and done it might actually be finacially beneficial.

I would suspect the contacts, not the cleaner. I've been using that cleaner for years and love it! Take the damaged lenses back to your practitioner and he will replace them. I suspect he'll prescribe a different brand for you to try as well.

Good luck!

I have been using Ultra Care for several years with great results. My contacts tend to dry out my eyes also, and Ultra Care works best for me. However, this system is difficult to find. I have found it at CVS and at Walgreens sometimes. It does use the tablets that bubble while they soak. One thought about the damage happening to your lens, is maybe you are scratching or tearing the lens with a fingernail when you are cleaning it or removing it from your eye? Just a thought.

I do not use those lenses, but I do use the Clear Care Contact solution every night and I have never had a lens crack on me. I wear Frequency 55 for astigmatism and also have dry eyes....it works great for me....

I use the same contacts and have problems with dry eyes. I use Aquify solution now and I have no problems at all. I would give it a try. I actually had issues with Renu and my dryness became worse. I was told I am allergic to the chemicals that the companies use in Renu. Good luck.

I have dry eyes and my doc said to use Opti-Free Replenish. It works great. It costs a little more than the regular solutions, but it works. I shop at Wal-Mart & Target, and you can find them on sale pretty often. I am starting to save for Lasik b/c I am so tired of my contacts and dry eyes. I did try some contacts (can't remember which ones) that were supposed to help but they just made my eyes itchy.
Good Luck. If you find any other things that help dry eyes let me know. I am going for my check-up in a few weeks and if he tells me about any new stuff I will message you.
