I have been diagnosed with pcos. After trying to get pregnant for over a year my dr put me on prometrium followed by clomid. I was just wondering if anyone else has tried this and if you have was it successful?
A coworker did this and successfully conceived during the third month of using Clomid. She, too, has PCOS. I conceived the first time using Clomid, but I was prescribed the medication for a different reason than yours. Good luck to you!
I don't have pcos but I have 2 friends that do. One was on a diabetes medication for it. I think there is a connection to body weight and hormones with pocs but I don't know the details. She had a couple of miscarriages and then decided she did not want children at all (her husband had a difficult time as a child and didn't want kids). My other friend tried a few things and finally got pregnant the first try with IVF. She conceived her second child naturally (a few months before turning 40).
All four of my kids were clomid babies. Although the cause of my infertility is not pcos (I don't ovulate because my eggs are "old" due to too much long distance running), prometrium and clomid worked well. It took 3 months for #1, 6 months for #2, 2 months for #3, and 5 months for #4. I took 150mg of clomid cycle days 3-7 and was monitored most of the cycles I took it. I usually had one great follicle; no twins. A common side effect of clomid is irritability, and my husband will report it was the case for me! boo. I also had night sweats. But small price to pay for our babies. I breastfed each baby for one year before we started the prometrium/clomid cycles to try to conceive again.
For us, clomid worked really well. I know it doesn't work for everyone, but I hope it helps you too! I recommend stocking up on some ovulation strips and some cheapy internet pregnancy sticks to help you know when ovulation is coming, and for when you simply can't wait to test. Those two-week waits were tough! Good luck!
Hi I did the whole clomid/ fertility treatment then tired insemination. None of that worked for me.. What did work and was considerably cheaper. I was put on Metformin ( its a med for diabetics. however I am NOT diabetic) I also suffered from PCO's.
I had to go on a special diet which I started in Dec along with the medicine and was pregnant by April ( yes 4 months) I went to a hospital in Cinn, Ohio where they were conducting a study of women that had PCO's.
This medicine I believe was covered by our insurance it was only $50 a mo. which compared to the Clomid was cheap. I conceived our 11 yrs son on this medicine. Then we had no problem conceiving our two other children. If you have any other questions please send me a message.
took it two separate times years apart for 3 months both times; it was not successful for me, but I know many women who were able to conceive with it.
