We are taking my daughter to see her grandparents in Ireland in a few months, and I am wondering if I should bring my cloth diapers. Since we will be staying at my in-laws house, I will have access to a washing machine, etc. I know for sure that I am using disposables on the plane, but I just can't decide if I want to drag all my diapers with me (I'd just take about 15 all-in-ones and do wash everyday).
Here's my question: we cloth 99.9% of the time, will my daughter care either way? She will be 13 months at the time. It's been months since I've put a disposable on my daughter, and in total, excluding the hospital stay, I've used maybe 20. I hate the smell of disposables (can't tell if she's wet or not), and they always seem to leak on me, so in many ways I'd prefer just using my cloth. However, I just don't know if I want to be washing diapers everyday while we are away! This will be my first holiday in 2 years.
What would you do?
Thanks for all the comments. I'm still on the fence about this one. There is a part of me, though, that wants a week with no diapers, period. In fact, I told my husband last night that I was leaning towards sposies, and that he would be in charge of all diaper changes while we were on holiday! He didn't like that much.
Maybe I will take some diapers along with me, as well as sposies. Then I have options. I'd hate to not take my diapers and then wish I did.
ok so here is my totally Ungreen advise. If its your first holiday in 2 years get some disposable snd don't fee guilty about it. If it was me I would want to not worry about washing / rinsing / washing again diapers on my trip. you can always pack them and take them and use them if it works out but not if it is a hassle. Have a wonderful time on your trip.
I would. Just me though. When we went to Disney, I did take disposable because we were staying at extended family that I did not know that well. My dd did fine but, it was only a few days. I hated exposing her to those chemicals even for a few days.. and of course knowing that those few diapers would be sitting somewhere in a dump for 500 years. I am sure many in Ireland use cloth too. 90% of disposables are used here in the US. Hope that helps! : )

By time your daughter is 13 months old she will need less diapers a day. your 15 all in one should last 2 days easy. However on the plane you can use disposable try "tushies" they biodegrade much faster. Have a good time.

I traveled to Vegas alone with my 3 month old and took cloth diapers. even on the plane.
I took what I was comfortable with, because that is what ends up being the easiest.
Realize if you often have leaks with disposables is that what you want to deal with on the plane. If you choose to use disposables on the plane, maybe a good idea is to cover that with a cloth diaper cover.
We have 3 kids and have never taken disposables on vacation. Our view is well if we need disposables it is not like we will have any trouble finding them. We haven't had to use disposables yet.
Take them and try it. Oh and for space savings consider those space bags. If you suck all the air out of cloth diapers they can be sandwich trim like a disposable diaper.
We cloth diaper all the time at home. When my son was first born, we took the cloth on vacation with us - did this a few times and that was ok. Now, we are older and wiser parents (and have 2 kids; one potty trained and one still in diapers). My advice: vacations are for relaxing. Get some disposables when you arrive in Ireland and enjoy your vacation. Your daughter won't care! And nobody is keeping score :)
