I'm trying my best to go "green" and I've started thinking about cloth diapers. I currently have a 2 year old who still wears disposible diapers and we're thinking about having another baby in the next year or two.
I've heard of "G Diapers" which sound really cool. Does anyone use these diapers or other cloth diapers?
I'm not looking to do the old-fashioned cloth with the safety pins and rubber pants. I'd definitely like a more modern product that's enviromentally responsible.
Any advice would be appreciated!

hi, L. ! i've cloth diapered 5 from birth - still have my 10 month old in them. i love different things for different ages - kissaluvs for newborns and pocket dipes (happy heinys are the bomb w/ cotton baby inserts) for older babies and all-in-ones for the utmost convenience and cuteness at any age. i've tried it all from pinning prefolds w/ diaper covers to the $45 aio's that are hand embroidered. one of the best kept secrets of cd'ing is that your child should potty train much earlier if you do it full-time. mine all pt'ed by 18 mos completely, even through the night. my current fave site is in ann arbor, www.middleearthdiapers.com. good luck and feel free to email me if you'd ever like a demo or to come see some diff types of dipes, i'm in royal oak and would be happy to show you the ropes ! Hi L., there are sooooooooooo many choices out there and options for you to choose from. Now they even have these gadgets called Snappies to use instead of pins! Anyhow, when we switched to cloth I was recommended this site and loved all of the information it had...I literally disected it.

Unfortunately even though we ended up doing disposibles at night, my little girls bottom was just to sensitive to urine and we've had to switch back. And I changed her literally every hour! We're holding onto them though to try with our next. :o)

I was in the same boat as you about 6 months ago with a 6 month old baby and wondering how to make the switch. I asked on here for advice and also found a great place in ann arbor that sells different types of cloth diapers. We ended up purchasing 15 bumgenius one size pocket diapers and I have really liked them. They are super easy to use and you don't have to buy different sizes - although I am not sure about newborns - they seem like they might be big and bulky for the first few weeks or so. The only issue that I am still working on has more to do with our washing machine than the diapers. I have a hard time getting them free of soap residue even with using the recommended detergent. But I also have a HE top loading washer and I have noticed similar issues with all of my laundry. I also looked into g diapers but was turned off by the cost - the inserts alone would have cost us more than the premium disposables we were using. The store in ann arbor (also a website) is tree city diapers (.com). They are very helpful and have everything you need to get started. I don't know where you live - I assume in the Troy area - I'm in Saint Clair Shores - but it was worth the drive for us to talk to someone and get to look at several different types of diapers. Plus they have lots of other cool stuff. A few other things you might need: two diaper pail liners that you can wash with the diapers (I just kept using the same diaper pail from Babies r us), some wet bags to take when out and about which are similar to the liners just smaller and with a zipper, some cloth wipes and some sort of wipe solution (we use the bumgenius bottom cleaner and we are still on the same bottle from 6 months ago!). Also, we decided to use a seventh generation disposable at night, although we did try using the cloth and didn't have any leaks or anything, just doubled up the liners, but I thought that she would be more comfortable and drier in the disposable. Especially since she sleeps for about 12 hours. Hope all of my rambling helps!! Please let me know if you have any other questions. I would be happy to help!!

I use cloth and have for all age - love them I use the chinese prefold and a velcro wrap. You have no idea how affordable it is!! Its soooo good for the enviroment too and the best thing is you dont have the carcinegenics in disposable diapers (the stuff that makes them absorbent) next to your baby.
My mother in law "gifted" me with a big starter pack of G-diapers before my daughter was born. I had not intention of using cloth diapers. I thought they were ridiculous and seemed like a major pain. However, after I sent them back a friend told me how she had discovered the best thing...G diapers! She loves them. I do know that you can order a trial pack from their website.
